Empuraan: Hit Or Flop? Mohanlal's much-awaited action thriller Empuraan premiered in theaters worldwide on March 27, 2025. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the film is the second chapter in the Lucifer trilogy. A joint production by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies, with Lyca Productions as the presenter, Empuraan features Mohanlal in the lead role alongside an ensemble cast, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.

From Announcement to Release: The Journey of Empuraan

Conceived as a trilogy, Lucifer's success led to Empuraan, announced in June 2019. Originally set for mid-2020, production was delayed by the pandemic, allowing writer Murali Gopy to refine the story while keeping it accessible as a standalone film.

The screenplay was finalized in July 2022, with pre-production starting in August. Lyca Productions joined in September 2023, marking their Malayalam debut, and Gopalam became a co-producer in March 2025 after financial negotiations. Deepak Dev composed the soundtrack.

Filmed over 145 days from October 2023 to December 2024, Empuraan features locations across India, the UK, the US, and the UAE. It is also the first Malayalam film to release in IMAX and EPIQ formats.

Empuraan Cast And Crew

Mohanlal returns as Khureshi Ab'raam / Stephen Nedumpally, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran as Zayed Masood, Abhimanyu Singh as Balraj, and Tovino Thomas as Jathin Ramdas. Manju Warrier reprises her role as Priyadarshini Ramdas, with Andrea Tivadar as Michele Menuhin and Jerome Flynn as Boris Oliver. Indrajith Sukumaran plays Govardhan, while Karthikeya Dev portrays a younger Zayed Masood.

The supporting cast includes Kishore, Sukant Goel, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Eriq Ebouaney, Nikhat Khan, Fazil, Sachin Khedekar, and Saikumar, along with several other notable actors.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan under Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies. Murali Gopy penned the screenplay, with cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev, editing by Akhilesh Mohan, and music by Deepak Dev. M R Rajakrishnan handled sound design, while Stunt Silva choreographed action sequences.

The VFX was overseen by Praveen Ghanta, with contributions from YFX Studios and other teams. Production executives included Saji Joseph and Sethu Adoor, with RP Bala directing multilingual dubbing. Annapurna Studios handled DI, and promotions were managed by Poffactio.
