Empuraan Kerala Advance Booking: Mohanlal's Movie Smashes Leo's Pre-Sales Records, Eyes Historic Opening

Empuraan Kerala Advance Booking: The excitement surrounding Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer, has reached a fever pitch as advance booking figures in Kerala soar to record-breaking heights. The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and featuring Mohanlal in the lead, has reportedly grossed an astonishing ₹6.31 crore in just under seven hours of ticket sales. This milestone cements Empuraan as one of the most awaited Indian films of the year, setting new benchmarks in pre-release sales.
Strong Advance Bookings for Empuraan
Industry tracker AB George shared the staggering figures on social media, highlighting that Empuraan surpassed Leo's entire first-day Kerala advance sales within just seven hours. For comparison, Leo, starring Vijay, registered ₹5.86 crore in pre-sales over a full day, while Empuraan matched this number in just six hours, with a slightly higher occupancy rate of 60% across 2,363 shows.
The advance booking trend indicates that the film's opening-day collection in Kerala alone could set a new record. With global pre-sales expected to exceed ₹25 crore soon, Empuraan is well on its way to becoming a historic box office success.
The Success of Lucifer Sets High Expectations
The anticipation for Empuraan stems largely from the success of Lucifer, which was a major hit and resonated well with audiences. The first installment was conceived as part of a three-film saga, with Empuraan set to explore the character of Stephen Nedumpally, played by Mohanlal, in greater depth.
A Strong Ensemble Cast
With an ensemble cast that includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, and Eriq Ebouaney, Empuraan brings together a mix of Malayalam cinema stalwarts and international talent. The film is jointly produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, marking the latter's first foray into Malayalam cinema.
Excitement Builds with Trailer Release
The excitement for Empuraan was further fueled by the trailer launch on March 20, which took fans by surprise when the Malayalam version debuted at midnight. Within hours, the trailer amassed over a million views, setting social media abuzz. The film's teaser, released on January 26, had already heightened expectations, and the full trailer only reinforced the belief that Empuraan will be one of the biggest films of the year.
A Grand Release Awaits
Set to hit theaters worldwide on March 27, 2025, Empuraan is making history as the first Malayalam film to be released in the IMAX format. With advance bookings already shattering records, all eyes are now on its opening day collections, which are expected to set new benchmarks for Malayalam cinema.
