Empuraan Controversy

The controversy over Empuraan has created a huge buzz, primarily because of how it presents certain themes and characters, portraying the 2002 Gujarat riots. Some have been critical of the way certain social and political issues were presented in the film, which they feel could be controversial or offensive. There have also been discussions on how the film handled religious aspects, with some people believing it has the potential to offend some communities.

Addressing the controversy, Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said "I decided not to see it now because Mohanlal himself said that he felt upset. When Mohanlal himself has problems with his movie, why should I watch it? If he is not happy with his product, why should I buy a ticket and popcorn to watch it? When Mohanlal and producers come out with a fine product after cuts, I am ready to watch it." He further added, "When there was so much talk about it, some people liked it and some people did not. Pinarayi Vijayan really liked it. Then I decided I would not go for the movie because I did not have that kind of motivation to watch it in such circumstances ... Why should I fuel Pinarayi Vijayan's controversy? The Congress followed as it is their habit to rush and follow the issues taken up by the CPI (sic)."

Empuraan Cast & Crew

Empuraan is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, written by Murali Gopy and produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah, and Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions, and Sree Gokulam Movies. The movie stars Mohanlal in the lead role alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney and Kishore in key roles.

Talking about the success of Empuran, Mohanlal wrote on his social media post, "Setting new standards. #Empuraan achieved the 4th Biggest Opening in UAE box office history and the second-fastest 4 Lakh Admissions, only behind Avengers Endgame. #L2E is making history in style." To his post, a fan replied, "Once a king . Always a KING Mohanlal sir."
