Empuraan OTT Release: Following its theatrical release, Empuraan (L2: Empuraan), the second film in the planned Lucifer trilogy, is gearing up for its digital premiere. Aashirvad Cinemas recently announced that the Mohanlal-starrer will begin streaming on JioHotstar from April 24. In addition to Malayalam, the film will be available in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and penned by Murali Gopy, Empuraan was envisioned from the beginning as part of a trilogy. The film hit theaters on March 27, 2025, in standard, IMAX, and EPIQ formats, and went on to emerge as the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.

Empuraan Synopsis

Amid rising political unrest and global criminal conspiracies, Empuraan follows Khureshi-Ab'raam / Stephen Nedumpally-a man with a hidden past-as he navigates a volatile landscape of betrayal, power struggles, and revenge. As Kerala's leadership faces upheaval and international agencies close in, Ab'raam returns from the shadows to confront enemies old and new. With alliances shifting and secrets unraveling, the stage is set for a reckoning that could reshape the future of power.

Empuraan Cast and Crew

The film features Mohanlal in the lead role as Khureshi-Ab'raam / Stephen Nedumpally, with Pranav Mohanlal and Adarsh portraying younger versions of the character. Other key cast members include Prithviraj Sukumaran as Zayed Masood, Karthikeya Dev as young Zayed Masood, Abhimanyu Singh as Balraj Patel / Baba Bajrangi, and Manju Warrier as Priyadarshini Ramdas. Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jerome Flynn, and Andrea Tivadar also feature in significant roles, while Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, and Suraj Venjaramoodu appear in supporting parts. Additional performances include Kishore as Karthik, Sukant Goel as Munna, and Eriq Ebouaney as Kabuga. The film also includes cameos from notable actors such as Antony Perumbavoor, Aashish Joe Antony, and Rick Yune, along with a host of other supporting characters played by actors like Sachin Khedekar, Nandhu, and Shivaji Guruvayoor.

The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan, with production credits under Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies. Sujith Vaassudev is the cinematographer, Deepak Dev composed the music, and Akhilesh Mohan handled editing. Key crew includes Suresh Balaje and George Pius as executive producers, Sidhu Panakkal as production controller, and Vava as chief associate director.

The film's creative and technical teams feature Nirmal Sahadev (creative director), M. R. Rajakrishnan (sound design), Stunt Silva (action choreography), Sujith Sudhakaran (costumes), and Sreejith Guruvayoor (makeup). VFX supervision was by Praveen Ghanta, with effects delivered by YFX Studios and several others. The DI was completed at Annapurna Studios with Vivek Anand as colorist.
