Malayalam Rapper Vedan Booked For Alleged Rape Following Young Doctor’s Complaint, Says Report

Rapper Vedan Booked in Rape Case After Doctor s Complaint

Vedan Accused of Rape Under Pretext of Marriage: A rape case has been registered against Malayalam rapper Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, following a complaint filed by a young doctor. According to a report by Asianet News, the Thrikkakkara Police in Kochi have filed the case under Section 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with repeated sexual assault on the same woman.

As Asianet News points out, the complainant alleges that Vedan sexually assaulted her multiple times over a period of nearly two years, between August 2021 and March 2023, under the false pretext of marriage. The two reportedly became acquainted through Instagram during the 2020-2021 period. The FIR in the case was officially registered on July 30, 2025.

According to the complaint, the first instance of alleged rape occurred at the woman's flat in Kozhikode after Vedan traveled there. Following this, the woman alleges Vedan promised marriage in the aftermath, and the two continued to meet at various locations, including Kozhikode and Kochi. These encounters reportedly coincided with Vedan's professional commitments as well as other personal visits.

The complainant further stated that by the end of 2023, Vedan ended their relationship, calling her "toxic" and "possessive." She told police that the emotional aftermath led her into depression, and she refrained from filing a police report earlier due to concerns about public reaction and stigma.

Previous Allegations Against Vedan

The current case comes after previous allegations against Vedan. The rapper had earlier faced accusations of sexual misconduct during the MeToo movement in 2021, though no formal legal proceedings had followed those claims.

In addition to the current rape charges, Vedan was also in the news in April 2025 when he was arrested by the Kerala Excise Department for the alleged possession of cannabis. During a subsequent raid on his residence, officials discovered a tiger tooth pendant, which led to further legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act. Vedan was later granted bail in that case.

As of now, there has been no official response from Vedan or his representatives regarding the latest allegations. The investigation by the Thrikkakkara Police is ongoing.
