At the time of the raid, Vedan and eight others were present in the flat. They had reportedly gathered for a "program discussion," according to initial information. Officials have stated that a medical examination will be conducted to ascertain whether Vedan was under the influence of drugs at the time of the raid.

Vedan gained recognition for writing and singing the track Kuthanthram Thanthram (Viyarppu Thunniyitta Kuppaayam) in the popular Malayalam film Manjummel Boys. His involvement in the case has drawn attention given his rising profile in the independent music scene.

This incident comes shortly after another case involving members of the Malayalam film industry. Just a day ago, filmmakers Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza were detained after being found in possession of hybrid cannabis at a flat in Kochi. They were picked up from a residence belonging to cinematographer Sameer Thahir. Authorities reported finding 1.6 grams of hybrid cannabis in their possession. They were released after questioning.

The recent string of cases highlights the ongoing efforts by excise authorities to crack down on drug use across Kerala. Officials have intensified surveillance and enforcement activities, particularly following tips from confidential sources.
