Mammootty To Star In Adoor Gopalakrishnan Film: Actor’s First Project With Director In Over 30 Years: Report

Mammootty To Star In Adoor Gopalakrishnan Film

Mammootty In Talks For Adoor Gopalakrishnan Film: Renowned actor Mammootty is reportedly in talks to play the lead in a new film directed by master filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, according to an exclusive report by Pappappa. A film adaptation of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's acclaimed novel Randidangazhi, was initially considered, and Mammootty has expressed interest in the project. However, no final decision on the adaptation has been confirmed, and it is expected to be produced by the actor's own company. Early-stage planning and discussions are underway, indicating the potential start of a notable collaboration in Malayalam cinema.

According to the report, Mammootty recently met Adoor Gopalakrishnan and veteran actor Madhu in Thiruvananthapuram while attending a state government event. Pappappa's report indicates that Adoor has long intended to make a film starring Mammootty. It is said that a decision regarding this collaboration was reached during the meeting, marking the beginning of the film's planning phase.

Mammootty and Adoor have a longstanding professional history. Their first collaboration was in 1987 with Anantharam. They subsequently worked together on Mathilukal and Vidheyan, both of which featured Mammootty in central roles. In Mathilukal, he portrayed a character inspired by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's novel, while in Vidheyan, he took on a role based on Bhaskara Pattelarum Ente Jeevithavum by Paul Zacharia. These roles earned Mammootty the National Award for Best Actor in 1989 and 1994, and he also received the Kerala State Film Award for Vidheyan.

Adoor's Decade-Long Hiatus May End With New Mammootty Project

Adoor's most recent directorial venture was Pinneyum (2016), starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. The potential project with Mammootty would mark Adoor's return to filmmaking after nearly a decade and reunite the director with the actor after more than 30 years.

If the adaptation of Randidangazhi moves forward, it would be the second cinematic treatment of Thakazhi's work. The novel was first adapted in 1958 by P. Subrahmaniam, with screenplay and dialogues by Thakazhi himself under Neela Productions. That version won the National Award for Best Regional Film in 1959.

With planning reportedly in its early stages, fans and cinephiles will be closely watching for an official announcement regarding the collaboration between Mammootty and Adoor Gopalakrishnan, which could mark a notable chapter in contemporary Malayalam cinema.
