‘Manjummel Boys' Actor Sreenath Bhasi Moves High Court For Anticipatory Bail In Hybrid Ganja Case

Sreenath Bhasi Seeks Anticipatory Bail In Hybrid Ganja Case

Sreenath Bhasi Seeks Anticipatory Bail in Hybrid Ganja Case: Malayalam actor Sreenath Bhasi has approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a hybrid ganja case reported in Alappuzha. The application comes in the wake of reports indicating that some film personalities could be questioned based on the testimony of an accused arrested with a substantial quantity of the banned substance.

According to a Mathrubhumi news report, the petition, filed by Sreenath Bhasi, argues that there is a possibility of his arrest and that he has no involvement in the case. It notes that his name was mentioned in a statement given by one of the accused, which he believes could potentially lead to unwarranted legal action. The actor has therefore sought pre-arrest bail to avoid being taken into custody.

The report suggests that the matter is scheduled to be taken up on Wednesday by a bench led by Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan. Sreenath Bhasi's legal counsel emphasized in the plea that the actor has no links to the incident and has not committed any offense. However, considering the current direction of the investigation and the possibility of his name being further drawn into the case, the petition was filed as a precautionary measure.

Alappuzha Hybrid Ganja Case

The case itself revolves around the arrest of two individuals-Taslima Sultana, also known as Christina (41), a native of Kannur, and K. Firoz (26) from Alappuzha-who were apprehended by a special excise team with three kilograms of hybrid ganja. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 2 crore, was allegedly meant to be distributed among individuals associated with the film and tourism sectors.

During interrogation, Taslima reportedly named a few film actors, prompting speculation about possible upcoming summons. However, excise officials have maintained that questioning any actors will only follow the verification of supporting evidence. They have also confirmed the recovery of certain WhatsApp chats involving two actors, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Both accused remain in judicial custody as the investigation continues. Sreenath Bhasi, who was recently seen in the blockbuster Malayalam film Manjummel Boys, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
