Marco OTT Release: Fans Disappointed Over Missing Uncut Version, Makers Issue Statement

Marco OTT Release: The Malayalam neo-noir action thriller Marco, which was initially scheduled for an OTT release on February 14, 2025, made a surprise early debut on SonyLIV on the afternoon of February 13. The film is now available for streaming in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Following its OTT release, the film's production company, Cubes Entertainments, issued a statement addressing concerns over the release version.

The makers explained that although they had initially planned to release an uncut version of Marco on OTT, they were unable to proceed due to complaints raised with the Ministry of Broadcasting. As a result, they were required to comply with regulatory guidelines and release the same version that was shown in theaters. Despite this, the production house assured fans that the film's core essence and cinematic experience remain intact and expressed their excitement about reaching a wider audience through SonyLIV.

Marco gained popularity in theaters for its violent action sequences. Previously, the makers had assured fans that the OTT release would feature an uncut version with uncensored and extended action sequences. However, the decision to release only the theatrical version on digital platforms has disappointed many fans who were eagerly awaiting the unedited content.

Marco's Star-Studded Cast and Box Office Success

Helmed by Haneef Adeni and backed by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, Marco features Unni Mukundan in the lead role. The ensemble cast includes Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S. Thilakan, Kabir Duhan Singh, Anson Paul, and Yukti Thareja. The film's music is composed by Ravi Basrur, with Chandru Selvaraj handling cinematography and Shameer Muhammed overseeing the editing.

A standalone spinoff of the 2019 film Mikhael, Marco introduces a fresh narrative while revisiting familiar characters. The film was released theatrically on December 20, 2024, followed by dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. Known for its high-octane action and graphic violence, Marco has reportedly become the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film of all time.

While fans expressed disappointment over the absence of the uncut version, Marco continues to generate buzz, and its digital release is expected to reach an even larger audience in the coming weeks.
