Mohanlal Expresses Regret Over Controversy Caused By Empuraan; Prithviraj Shares His Statement

Mohanlal Responds To Empuraan Controversy, Promises Changes: Veteran actor Mohanlal has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding Empuraan, the second installment of the Lucifer franchise. Taking to his official social media account, the actor expressed regret over the distress caused by certain political and social themes depicted in the film.

In his statement, Mohanlal acknowledged that these themes had caused significant distress to many who care about him. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that none of his films promote hatred toward any political movement, ideology, or religious group.

"Therefore, my team and I sincerely regret the distress caused to my dear ones, and we wholeheartedly acknowledge that the responsibility for it lies with all of us who worked behind the film," he stated.

He further added that, with this realization, the team had collectively decided to necessarily remove such themes from the movie.

"For the past four decades, I have lived my cinema life as one among you. Your love and trust are my only strength. I truly believe there is no Mohanlal beyond that," the actor concluded.

Director and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran later showed his support by sharing Mohanlal's post on social media.

Controversy Over Empuraan

The controversy surrounding Empuraan emerged following criticism from right-wing political groups, particularly the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Critics, including the RSS-affiliated publication Organizer, accused the film of presenting a one-sided depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots and pushing an "anti-Hindu political agenda." Additionally, some critics called for the revocation of Mohanlal's honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army, citing his involvement in the film. In response, the makers of Empuraan announced voluntary edits to remove sensitive elements from the movie.

As the film undergoes modifications, debates continue over the balance between creative expression and political sensitivities. While some appreciate the effort to address concerns, others argue that artistic freedom should not be compromised due to external pressures.
