Narivetta OTT Release: Narivetta, the Malayalam action drama inspired by the 2003 Muthanga incident, is set to premiere digitally on SonyLIV on July 11, 2025. The film, which hit theaters on May 23, is directed by Anuraj Manohar and stars Tovino Thomas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Tamil actor Cheran, who makes his Malayalam debut.

Drawing from real-life events, Narivetta focuses on land rights and the conflicts between indigenous communities and state authorities. The story follows CPO Peter Varghese (played by Tovino Thomas), a police constable posted to a remote tribal settlement in Kerala. While on duty, Varghese begins to witness the displacement of Adivasi communities under the guise of forest conservation. As local resistance grows, he becomes increasingly conflicted about his role in the unfolding events.

Suraj Venjaramoodu portrays Head Constable Basheer Ahammed, Varghese's senior and mentor, who helps guide him through the moral challenges of the situation. The conflict escalates with the arrival of DIG Raghuram Keshavadas, played by Cheran, a senior officer intent on restoring order through aggressive means. The storyline weaves through protests for the right to land, rising tensions, and the complex dynamics of power.

Arya Salim appears as C. K. Shanthi, a character reportedly based on tribal activist C.K. Janu. The supporting cast includes Pranav Teophine, Priyamvada Krishnan, Prasanth Madhavan, Nandhu, Badusha NM, Kumar Sethu, Dr. Vijesh Lee, and Shahi Kabir.

Narivetta: Production Highlights

The project, written by Abin Joseph, was announced in July 2024, with filming carried out in locations such as Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Wayanad. Cinematography was handled by Vijay, with editing by Shameer Muhammad. Jakes Bejoy composed the original score and songs for the film.

Produced under the banner of Indian Cinema Company by Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan, Narivetta brings together a team that includes project designer Shemimol Besheer, costume designer Arun Manohar, and stunt coordinator Phoenix Prabhu. The film's VFX was provided by Pictorial FX, and DI was completed in-house by the production company.

Narivetta will be available for streaming exclusively on SonyLIV starting July 11.
