Ponman OTT Release: Ponman, a Malayalam dark comedy directed by Jothish Shankar, hit theaters on January 30, 2025. Starring Basil Joseph, Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Anand Manmadhan, and Deepak Parambol, the film is based on the novel Naalanchu Cheruppakar by G. R. Indugopan.
The movie received a positive response from critics and audiences, with praise for its storytelling and dark humor. Shot predominantly in Kollam, key locations include Munrothuruth, Thanni, Chinnakada, Kundara, and Thekkumbhagam.
Ponman is set to make its digital debut on JioHotstar from March 14, allowing audiences to enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.
Ponman Storyline
Set in coastal Kollam, Ponman follows PP Ajesh (Basil Joseph), a jewelry sales agent who lends gold to brides' families, expecting repayment from wedding cash gifts. When a family falls short on repayment, Ajesh's quest to reclaim the gold spirals into unexpected challenges, shedding light on societal issues surrounding dowry and the cultural significance of gold.
Ponman Cast And Crew
The Malayalam dark comedy Ponman boasts a talented ensemble cast led by Basil Joseph, alongside Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Deepak Parambol, and Anand Manmadhan. The film also features seasoned actors Sandhya Rajendran, Rajesh Sharma, Kiran Peethambaran, Reju Sivadas, Jaya Kurupp, Midhun Venugopal, Thankam Mohan, and Shylaja P Ambu, bringing depth to its compelling narrative.
Ponman, produced under the banner of Ajith Vinayaka Films, was directed by Jothish Shankar and backed by producer Vinayaka Ajith. The film features music by Justin Varghese, with a trailer soundtrack by Christy Joby. Sanu John Varghese handled cinematography, while the screenplay was penned by G. R. Indugopan and Justin Mathew. Edited by Nidhin Raj Arol, the film's production design was led by Jothish Shankar, with Melwy J overseeing costumes and Sudhi Surendran managing makeup.
The project was designed by Ranjith Karunakaran, with Vimal Vaijay as the production executive and Elson Eldhose as the chief associate director. Sound design was handled by Shankaran A. S. and K. C. Sidharthan, with Aravind Menon in charge of sound mixing. Phoenix Prabu choreographed the stunts, while Liju Prabhakar served as the colourist. VFX was managed by Nocturnal Octave Productions.
