Ronth follows a senior officer and his junior partner as they navigate the complexities of their job during overnight shifts. According to the official synopsis, it is "a gripping cop drama that follows a stoic senior police officer haunted by his past and his idealistic young partner assigned to night patrols. Their clashing personalities ignite tension, but as a series of intense and emotional events unfold, a reluctant bond begins to form. When a life-threatening incident threatens their careers, both must confront their deepest fears and darkest truths to survive the shadows of duty."
Shahi Kabir returns with his second directorial venture
This is director Shahi Kabir's second feature film, following his 2022 debut, Ela Veezha Poonchira. Prior to stepping into direction, Kabir was widely recognized for his screenplay work in Nayattu, for which he received the Best Screenplay Award at the 69th National Film Awards. He also penned Joseph, another notable title in his writing career. Ronth arrives after Kabir's script contribution to the commercially successful Officer on Duty.
The film is presented by Junglee Pictures in association with Festival Cinemas. It is produced by Vineet Jain, Rathish Ambat, Renjith EVM, and Jojo Jose, with Amrita Pandey serving as co-producer.
The cast includes Sudhi Koppa, Arun Cherukavil, Krisha Kurup, Nandanunni, Lakshmi Menon, and child actor Baby Nandhootty in key roles. The technical team comprises Manesh Madhavan as cinematographer, Praveen Mangalath as editor, and Anil Johnson handling music composition. The sound department includes Arun Asok and Sonu KP for sync sound and design, with final sound mixing by Sinoy Joseph.
Production design is led by Dileep Nath, with costumes by Dino Davis and Vishak Sanal Kumar and makeup by Ronex Xavier. The film's marketing, revenue, and commercial affairs are overseen by Ishwinder Arora, Mamta Kamtikar, and Mukesh Jain, respectively.
As early viewers share their first impressions, more detailed feedback is anticipated to circulate over the weekend. With its thematic focus on law enforcement, human vulnerability, and moral ambiguity, Ronth sets the stage for conversations around character-driven police narratives in Malayalam cinema.
