Directed by Tharun Moorthy and jointly written with K.R. Sunil, the film was released on April 25, 2025, and has steadily maintained its momentum amid ongoing competition from other releases.
According to early estimates shared by film industry tracker AB George, Thudarum grossed ₹0.63 crore on its 29th day (May 23), contributing to its impressive cumulative total. Thudarum is currently the third highest-grossing Malayalam film and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
Thudarum: Key Details
Set in the town of Perunad Ranni, Thudarum follows the story of Shanmugham, also known as Benz, a former stuntman who now drives a taxi. When his car becomes entangled in a police case without his knowledge, Benz finds himself caught in a chain of events that expose corruption and personal loss.
The cast includes Shobana as Lalitha, Benz's wife, and Thomas Mathew as their son Pavi. Prakash Varma plays a senior police officer whose role is central to the unfolding events. The supporting cast features notable names such as Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, and Aarsha Chandini Baiju, among others.
The film's story is inspired by an incident experienced by co-writer K.R. Sunil while traveling for his work as a documentary photographer. Sunil and producer M. Renjith approached Tharun Moorthy for the project, and Mohanlal, who had shown early interest in the story, was cast even before direction was finalized.
Behind the scenes, the film's cinematography is handled by Shaji Kumar, with editing by Shafeeque VB and Nishadh Yusuf. Jakes Bejoy composed the original score. The film was produced under the Rejaputhra Visual Media banner.
As Thudarum continues to perform well in theaters, it is anticipated that the film might add several more crores to its tally in the coming days, depending on audience turnout and the arrival of new releases.
