Thudarum Kerala Box Office Collection: Mohanlal's Film Nears ₹90 Crore Mark In Home State After 15 Days

Thudarum Box Office Collection: Thudarum, the Malayalam-language action thriller starring Mohanlal, has shown remarkable resilience at the Kerala box office, continuing its strong run well into its third week. As per the latest estimates from industry tracker AB George, the film has grossed approximately ₹86.25 crore in Kerala alone within the first 15 days of release.
The film, directed by Tharun Moorthy and produced by M. Renjith under the Rejaputhra Visual Media banner, hit theatres on April 25, 2025. It marked the first collaboration between Tharun Moorthy and Mohanlal, and features a screenplay jointly penned by Tharun Moorthy and K. R. Sunil, who also conceived the story.
Despite minimal pre-release hype and a low-profile promotional campaign, Thudarum managed to draw substantial crowds, largely attributed to positive word-of-mouth and strong critical reception. The film earned an estimated ₹2.85 crore in Kerala on its 15th day (May 9), suggesting continued audience interest despite newer releases entering cinemas.
Overseas Response
While the domestic performance has been noteworthy, Thudarum has also made a significant impact overseas. The film has grossed around ₹85.5 crore ($10 million) from overseas markets in 15 days-matching or surpassing the global lifetime collections of other recent Malayalam successes like Neru, Bheeshmaparvam, and Guruvayoor Ambala Nadayil. It now stands ahead of titles such as RDX and Kannur Squad in overseas earnings.
With this, Thudarum becomes only the second Malayalam film to gross over $10 million overseas, joining Empuraan (which earned $16.9 million) as Mohanlal's second entry into this elite club.
Box Office Trajectory
The film's domestic and international box office performance reflects a combination of star appeal and narrative surprise. While Mohanlal's presence guaranteed a solid initial pull, especially from his loyal fan base, the real turning point came from the film's unexpected tonal shift. Initially perceived as a low-key family drama, Thudarum unfolded into a tense crime thriller packed with mass action moments-a shift that caught audiences off guard and worked strongly in the film's favour. This surprise element not only contributed to positive word-of-mouth but also drew repeat viewership, boosting collections across both Kerala and overseas markets.
The film's Kerala collections have placed it among the top-performing Malayalam titles, with industry trackers referring to it as an 'industry hit'.
Milestone for Mohanlal
Thudarum marks another milestone for Mohanlal, adding a fifth decade to his list of industry hits. According to industry tracker AB George, the actor has now delivered box office toppers across five consecutive decades-from the 1980s to the 2020s-making him the first Indian actor to achieve this feat.
Having experienced a relatively uneven run at the box office in recent years, Mohanlal appears to have regained commercial momentum with Thudarum and Empuraan, both of which have registered strong performances within a short span.
