Thudarum Now Streaming On OTT: The Malayalam crime thriller Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy, is now available for streaming on JioHotstar starting May 30, 2025. The film, which stars Mohanlal in the lead role, originally hit theaters on April 25 and was met with a warm reception from audiences. After its successful theatrical run, the film has made its way to digital platforms, offering viewers the opportunity to watch or revisit it at home.

A Closer Look at Thudarum: Story, Cast, and Creative Origins

Set in the tranquil hill town of Perunad, Thudarum follows the life of Shanmugham, known to many as Benz, a former film stuntman who has since settled into a quieter life as a taxi driver. His calm routine is interrupted when a seemingly minor incident involving his Ambassador car sets off a chain of unexpected events. What begins as a regular day soon spirals into a deeper conflict as Benz becomes entangled in a police operation that dredges up buried memories and long-suppressed truths.

The film gradually unpacks layers of institutional misconduct, personal trauma, and difficult moral choices. As the narrative progresses, Benz finds himself navigating a complex web of past and present, one that tests both his resolve and relationships. The story addresses socio-political issues such as corruption and justice, presented through the experiences of its central characters in a realistic setting.

Thudarum was developed from an idea by K. R. Sunil, a documentary photographer, who drew inspiration from a real-life encounter during one of his travels. Believing in the strength of the characters and emotional undertones, Sunil and producer M. Renjith brought the story to Tharun Moorthy, who eventually came on board to direct. Mohanlal had already shown interest in the story early on and remained attached to the project throughout its development.

The film features a large ensemble cast including Shobana, Prakash Varma, Binu Pappu, Farhaan Faasil, and Thomas Mathew, among others. With cinematography by Shaji Kumar and music by Jakes Bejoy, the film was produced under the Rejaputhra Visual Media banner. Viewers can now stream Thudarum exclusively on JioHotstar.
