Thudarum Overseas Box Office: Mohanlal's Film Set To Become Mollywood's Second $10M+ Grosser After Empuraan

Thudarum Overseas Collections Mohanlal s Film Eyes 10M

Thudarum Overseas Box Office Collection: Tharun Moorthy's Malayalam thriller is seeing continued interest overseas, positioning itself as a potential major international performer for Mollywood.

Two weeks after its theatrical release, Thudarum, starring Mohanlal and Shobana, is showing strong momentum at the overseas box office. According to a recent update from industry tracker AB George, the crime drama is now on track to become the second Malayalam film to cross the $10 million mark in the overseas box office - following Empuraan, which also featured Mohanlal in the lead.

AB George, known for his reliable updates on South Indian box office numbers, posted the latest projections on X (formerly Twitter). He referred to Thudarum as a "second $10M+ overseas grosser loading" for both Mohanlal and Malayalam cinema, indicating growing interest from overseas audiences.

Domestically, the film has been performing steadily in Kerala. As of Day 14 (May 8), early estimates suggest a collection of ₹3.35 crore for the day, bringing the film's total Kerala gross to ₹83.35 crore. The film's steady performance may be attributed to its subject matter and the involvement of an experienced cast and crew.

Thudarum: Story and Production Details

Directed by Tharun Moorthy and co-written with K. R. Sunil, Thudarum unfolds in the quiet hill town of Ranni and follows the story of Shanmugham, also known as Benz, a taxi driver whose life is thrown into disarray after police confiscate his beloved black Ambassador car under suspicion of criminal involvement. What begins as an attempt to retrieve his car gradually spirals into a tense and deeply personal journey that exposes the complex workings of power and justice.

The film's production, helmed by M. Renjith under Rejaputhra Visual Media, involved shooting across various locations in Kerala. Cinematography was handled by Shaji Kumar, with editing by Shafeeque V.B. and Nishadh Yusuf. Jakes Bejoy composed both the original score and background music.

Thudarum reunites Mohanlal and Shobana on screen, while the ensemble cast includes names like Prakash Varma, Thomas Mathew, Farhaan Faasil, and Aarsha Chandini Baiju. The film's narrative origins trace back to an encounter experienced by co-writer Sunil during his travels as a documentary photographer - a moment that eventually inspired the script.

Take a Poll

With overseas numbers climbing and a solid domestic run, attention now turns to how Thudarum will ultimately perform in international markets, which could solidify its place among the top-performing Malayalam films at the global box office.
