Thudarum Worldwide Box Office Collection: Mohanlal's Film Crosses ₹150 Crore Mark, Eyes ₹160 Crore Today

Thudarum Worldwide Box Office Collection: The Malayalam crime thriller Thudarum, starring Mohanlal in the lead role, continues its strong run at the box office. Directed by Tharun Moorthy and produced under the Rejaputhra Visual Media banner by M. Renjith, the film has reportedly crossed the ₹150 crore mark in worldwide gross collections and is projected to reach ₹160 crore by the end of the day, according to film industry tracker AB George.
Having been released on April 25, 2025, Thudarum has swiftly climbed the box office charts. As per AB George's latest update, the film is expected to surpass the lifetime gross collections of Aavesham and Aadujeevitham today-an achievement made within just ten days of release. With this, Thudarum joins the exclusive club of Malayalam films that have grossed over ₹150 crore globally.
Sixth Malayalam Film to Cross ₹150 Crore Mark
With this milestone, Thudarum becomes the sixth Malayalam-language film to enter the ₹150 crore club. Other films in this category include 2018 (2023), Manjummel Boys (2024), Aadujeevitham (2024), Aavesham (2024), and Empuraan (2025). It has also managed to surpass the lifetime gross of Pulimurugan (2016), which was previously the highest-grossing film in Mohanlal's career.
Industry insiders note that the film's consistent performance across regions-particularly in Kerala and overseas Malayalam-speaking markets-has played a key role in its box office success. Positive word-of-mouth and ongoing audience interest in its narrative and performances have helped sustain its momentum beyond the opening weekend.
Thudarum: Shanmugham's Quest For Truth and Justice
Thudarum centers on the life of Shanmugham, also known as Benz, a taxi driver living with his family in the hill town of Ranni. A sequence of unsettling events begins when his cherished car is seized by the police under suspicious circumstances. When Benz is forced to drive police officers to a remote location, he unwittingly becomes part of a disturbing act. As he tries to make sense of the events, he uncovers a truth that deeply affects him and propels him into a personal quest for justice. The film unfolds as a slow-burning thriller, with layers of emotional and moral complexity.
The story was conceptualized by K.R. Sunil, a documentary photographer whose real-life experiences and observations served as inspiration. According to reports, Mohanlal had shown interest in the story even before the director came on board. Tharun Moorthy, who had previously directed Operation Java and Saudi Vellakka, was eventually approached to helm the project due to his handling of grounded narratives and layered characters.
Alongside Mohanlal, the film features Shobana in a key role as Lalitha, Benz's wife. The ensemble cast includes Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, Krishna Prabha, and Maniyanpilla Raju, among others. The film also includes a cameo appearance by Arjun Ashokan.
The cinematography is handled by Shaji Kumar, while editing is jointly credited to Shafeeque VB and Nishadh Yusuf. The original score and music are composed by Jakes Bejoy. Vishnu Govind supervised the audiography, and Gokul Das designed the production sets. Sameera Saneesh was in charge of costumes, and makeup was by Pattanam Rasheed.
Box Office Outlook
As Thudarum moves through its 10th day in theaters and enters its second full week, box office watchers are keenly observing whether it can maintain its pace and possibly inch closer to the ₹200 crore mark. Given the current trajectory and consistent footfalls in theaters, especially over the weekends, the film remains a contender for further milestones in the coming days.
With strong domestic collections and solid performances in key overseas markets, Thudarum has reaffirmed the evolving box office potential of Malayalam cinema. More updates on Thudarum's box office performance are expected as the film concludes its second weekend.
