Tourist Family Kerala Box Office Collection: Sasikumar And Simran Starrer Crosses ₹1.2 Crore Mark

Tourist Family Kerala Box Office Collection: The Tamil film Tourist Family, which hit theaters on May 1, 2025, has found unexpected traction in Kerala, crossing the ₹1.2 crore mark in gross collections within the state. Featuring Sasikumar and Simran in lead roles, the film appears to be enjoying steady footfall even as it enters its third week.
According to film industry tracker Friday Matinee, the film's Kerala gross currently stands at approximately ₹1.20 crore. Friday Matinee also noted that this figure has come as a surprise, as the makers had expected only around ₹10 lakh in returns from the state upon release. The film's relatively modest release in Kerala is now yielding a considerably higher return on investment.
The production houses-Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment-marked the 15th day of the film's theatrical run with an official social media post, acknowledging what they described as a "successful" run and stating that over one million tickets had been booked online. While such celebratory language is common in film promotions, the Kerala box office data indicates that Tourist Family is indeed performing beyond initial expectations.
Tourist Family: Comedy-Drama on Migration Finds Quiet Resonance
Set against the backdrop of Sri Lanka's ongoing economic challenges, the story centers on a Tamil family who migrates to Chennai under strained circumstances. Posing as Malayalis to avoid detection, they attempt to rebuild their lives while staying under the radar of law enforcement and the wider community. As tension builds around their identity and purpose, the film unfolds as a low-key drama exploring displacement, community, and survival.
Directed by Abishan Jeevinth in his debut, the film brings together a large ensemble cast that includes Yogi Babu, Mithun Jai Sankar, Kamalesh, M. S. Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak, and others. Sean Roldan composed the music, while Aravind Viswanathan handled the cinematography.
The Kerala response to Tourist Family is being closely watched by industry observers, especially given its relatively quiet release and the lack of a major promotional blitz. Whether the film's performance will sustain over the coming weeks remains to be seen, but for now, it has certainly made a noteworthy mark outside its core Tamil-speaking audience.
