Who Was Director Balachandrakumar? Key Witness In Actress Assault Case

Balachandrakumar Key Witness In Actress Assault Case: Kerala is set to witness the long-awaited verdict in the actress assault case today, December 8, in the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court. Among the various figures who have played a pivotal role in shaping the course of this high-profile trial is director Balachandrakumar, whose testimony and disclosures significantly influenced the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
Balachandrakumar's Connection With Dileep
According to a report by Azhimukham, Balachandrakumar had a personal friendship with actor Dileep, dating back to 2014. Their relationship began when Balachandrakumar narrated a story for his film, which Dileep agreed to produce.
In December 2021, as the trial neared its final stages, Balachandrakumar publicly disclosed information that would later prove critical. He claimed that Pulsar Suni, the first accused, and his associates had planned to intimidate investigators and influence witnesses under Dileep's guidance. His revelations prompted the inclusion of more serious charges, such as conspiracy and destruction of evidence, in addition to the initial charges of rape.
Key Allegations and Legal Significance
Among Balachandrakumar's most important allegations are that he witnessed Dileep watching recordings of the assault of the actress at Dileep's residence. He also alleged conspiracies aimed at obstructing the investigation, which helped authorities gather additional evidence. According to a report by The News Minute, one instance of his intervention involved clarifying the status of a previously hostile witness, Sagar Vincent, who admitted in court that he had lied under pressure during his initial deposition. Balachandrakumar had produced voice clips suggesting that bribes were offered to Sagar to alter his testimony.
These disclosures were instrumental in shaping the investigation and were recognized by the court as legally valid, enabling a new phase of inquiry that led to the registration of fresh FIRs against Dileep and others. Despite this, Dileep denied all allegations, while his family claimed that Balachandrakumar had attempted to extort money and later provided false statements when his efforts failed.
Death of a Key Witness
Balachandrakumar, who had become one of the prosecution's most important witnesses, passed away on December 13, 2024, due to kidney-related health issues. His digital evidence, including voice recordings and other documents, continued to play a crucial role in the trial, influencing how the court approached the remaining charges.
As Kerala awaits the verdict today, the contributions of Balachandrakumar remain a key aspect of understanding the case, particularly his role in exposing alleged conspiracies and ensuring that the investigation addressed gaps caused by hostile witnesses and other challenges.
