Meanwhile, according to a report by Asianet News dated January 31, 2026, the Karnataka government has handed over the investigation to the CID, citing the need for a wider probe. Officials have reportedly said that allegations raised by the family, including claims of undue pressure during the income tax proceedings, will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

As per a report by Mathrubhumi News dated January 31, 2026, police have recorded statements from Roy's family members at a hotel in Halasuru, Bengaluru. Investigators have also taken custody of Roy's personal diary as part of the inquiry.

Mathrubhumi News reported that Income Tax officials have maintained that Roy was only asked to sign certain documents and that no pressure was exerted on him. The report also states that the Income Tax Department is expected to issue a formal explanation in connection with the incident.

According to statements cited in the report, Roy's brother, Babu C. J., told the media that Income Tax officials had been present at the office for the past three days and had visited the family residence on January 28. He also said Roy had called him on the morning of the incident, asking when he would arrive, as he wanted to meet. While the brother stated that there were no known debts, liabilities, or threats faced by Roy, he added that pressure from officials could not be entirely ruled out.

Family members and employees of the Confident Group have alleged that Roy was under significant stress due to ongoing scrutiny by central investigation agencies. One of the company's directors, T. J. Joseph, has reportedly lodged a complaint with the police regarding these concerns. Investigators have recorded statements from Confident Group employees and income tax officials who were present at the office at the time of the incident. CCTV footage from the days of the searches, along with office hard disks, Roy's diary, and his mobile phone, have been taken into police custody for examination.

As per the Mathrubhumi News report, over the past few months, C. J. Roy and the Confident Group had come under increased scrutiny from central investigation agencies. Income tax raids were conducted at offices linked to the group in Kochi, Chennai, and Bengaluru in December, followed by searches over the last three days. During these inspections, several documents were reportedly sealed, and officials have said they returned to the Bengaluru office to collect them. Family members and company representatives have alleged that the continued scrutiny of Roy's financial dealings placed him under significant pressure.

On the day of the incident, Income Tax officials were present at the Hosur Road office, where Roy reportedly shot himself around 3:15 pm. The post-mortem reportedly found a bullet lodged in Roy's chest. The family has alleged that a senior income tax official exerted undue pressure on Roy, a claim that authorities have reportedly said will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
