Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the third chapter of the iconic franchise brought back Mohanlal as Georgekutty, alongside familiar faces like Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil. The franchise had already created a huge fan base over the years, and the return of Georgekutty generated strong buzz on social media and among movie lovers.

The film reportedly opened to packed theatres in Kerala and several other parts of India. Advance bookings remained strong before release, while early audience reactions praised Mohanlal's intense performance and the suspense-filled screenplay. Trade reports suggested that the movie targeted a blockbuster opening and aimed for nearly ₹50 crore worldwide on day one. Although a section of viewers felt the climax was complex, the overall response remained positive, with fans calling it a worthy continuation of the franchise. The popularity of the Drishyam series once again proved why it remained one of Indian cinema's most successful thriller franchises. However, despite a good start at the box office, Drishyam 3 witnessed a dip in numbers on the second day

Drishyam 3 Fails To Beat L2 Empuraan On Day 2
Interestingly, with a collection of Rs 9.85cr on day 2 for the Malayalam version, Drishyam 3 has failed to beat L2 Empuraan day 2 collection in the Malayalam regions which happen to be Rs 10.15cr. As a result, Drishyam 3 has recorded the second highest day 2 collection for a Malayalam movie ever and the highest day 2 collection by a Malayalam movie in 2026.
Meanwhile, talking about the idea behind Drishyam 3, Jeethu Joseph told Mathrubhumi, "Even while finishing the second part, I had thoughts about a continuation. Lalettan (Mohanlal) watched Drishyam 2 in my home theatre before OTT release. Perhaps because of the way the second part ended, he asked whether there was scope for a third part. I didn't know then if a third instalment would happen, but I shared some thoughts with him about how I would want the story to end if there was another continuation. I told him what kind of climax Georgekutty's next arrival should have. Lalettan liked it and said, "Write it and if it works, we'll move ahead." That conversation became the starting point. Later, many discussions followed, and eventually it evolved into the third part".
