Drishyam 3 Preview: Release Date, Cast, Runtime, Story Expectations & Mohanlal's Georgekutty Return
Drishyam 3 Preview: The wait for Drishyam 3 is finally coming to an end, with the third installment in the popular Malayalam crime thriller franchise scheduled to arrive in theatres on May 21, 2026. Directed by Jeethu Joseph and headlined by Mohanlal, the film continues the story of Georgekutty and his family after the events of Drishyam and Drishyam 2.

Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, the film is set for a worldwide theatrical release in Malayalam, while dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada are also releasing simultaneously. The film is also getting a major overseas rollout, including in the United States, where premiere shows are scheduled from 10:30 pm EST on May 20 (8 am IST on May 21).
According to reports, Drishyam 3 has a total runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes. The first half is said to run for 1 hour and 9 minutes, while the second half extends for 1 hour and 29 minutes.
Returning Cast, Story Expectations and Georgekutty's Next Chapter
The film brings back several familiar faces from the earlier installments. Mohanlal reprises his role as Georgekutty, while Meena returns as Rani. Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil once again play their daughters Anju and Anu. The returning cast also includes Siddique, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Santhi Mayadevi and Veena Nandakumar among others.
While the makers have largely kept plot details under wraps, expectations surrounding the story remain high because of the unresolved tension left at the end of Drishyam 2. The earlier films followed Georgekutty's attempts to protect his family after a crime changed their lives forever. The trailer released on May 9, 2026, included the line, "You have seen his brilliance. You have witnessed his defence. But you never saw what it cost him," hinting that the third installment may focus more closely on the personal consequences of Georgekutty's actions. Promotional material for the film also suggests that the new chapter will continue exploring themes of truth, deception, investigation and consequences.
The franchise has remained one of Malayalam cinema's most discussed thriller series over the years, with the first two films receiving remakes in multiple Indian languages. The return of Georgekutty, combined with Jeethu Joseph's writing and direction, has contributed to the strong anticipation surrounding Drishyam 3 ahead of its theatrical release.
Behind the scenes, the film features cinematography by Satheesh Kurup, editing by Vinayak VS and music composed by Anil Johnson. Antony Perumbavoor has produced the project under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, while Panorama Studios and Pen Studios are presenting the film for wider distribution.
With advance buzz continuing online and the film gearing up for its worldwide release, attention is now on whether Drishyam 3 can match the impact created by the first two films when it reaches theatres on Thursday.
