'Mahakumbh Viral Girl' Monalisa Age: Police Clarify Legality Of Marriage After Rumours Spread Online
Mahakumbh Viral Girl Monalisa Age: Speculation surrounding the age of Monalisa Bhosle, widely known online as the "Mahakumbh viral girl," has prompted a response from police in Kerala after claims circulated on social media suggesting that her recent marriage was illegal.

According to a report by Asianet News, the Thampanoor police have clarified that the wedding between Monalisa Bhosle and her partner Farman Khan was conducted legally after authorities verified her age through official documents. The clarification follows widespread online claims alleging that the bride was underage and that the marriage could attract legal consequences under child protection laws.
The controversy emerged after the couple's wedding, which took place at the Nainaar Temple in Arumanoor near Poovar, gained attention online. The ceremony was reportedly attended by several political leaders, including CPI(M) state secretary M. V. Govindan, Minister V. Sivankutty and CPI(M) district secretary A. A. Rahim. Soon after images and details from the event began circulating on social media, rumours started spreading that the bride was below the legal age required for marriage.
However, police officials have dismissed these claims. As reported by Asianet News, the Thampanoor police said Monalisa had already completed 18 years of age and that the marriage decision was taken only after confirming this through documents. Officials said records indicated her date of birth as January 1, 2008, and that the couple proceeded with the ceremony only after verifying the details. Authorities also stated that allegations suggesting otherwise were baseless.
The rumours online had claimed that Monalisa was only 16 years old, which led to speculation that the marriage could be treated as child marriage and might even result in legal action against those who participated in the ceremony. Some of these claims cited older media reports, which were widely shared on social media platforms.
Police intervened to clarify the matter after these claims gained traction online.
Monalisa and Farman Approached Police Before Wedding Amid Family Dispute
The couple had reportedly been in Poovar for several days in connection with a film shoot. According to the Asianet News report, they approached the Thampanoor Police Station earlier after informing authorities that their families were opposing their relationship and marriage.
Monalisa, who hails from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, and Farman Khan, a native of Maharashtra, are said to have known each other for several years after meeting through social media. Their relationship had faced resistance from Monalisa's family members.
While reportedly on their way to the airport to return home, Monalisa and Farman visited the Thampanoor Police Station and expressed their intention to get married. On March 11, the wedding ceremony took place at the Guru Mandir located outside the temple premises.
Police have reiterated that the marriage was conducted only after verifying Monalisa's age and that the circulating claims suggesting otherwise are not supported by the official documents reviewed by authorities.
