E. A. Rajendran Passes Away: Malayalam actor and director E. A. Rajendran passed away on March 26 at the age of 71. He breathed his last in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Pattathanam, Kollam, after a prolonged period of illness.

According to a report by Deshabhimani, Rajendran had been undergoing treatment for health-related issues for some time. His mortal remains are scheduled to be taken to his native place, Thrithallur in Thrissur, where the funeral will be held on March 27.

Rajendran was a familiar presence in Malayalam cinema, with a career spanning several decades. He featured in around 60 films, often appearing in supporting roles that ranged from character parts to antagonistic portrayals. His performances were part of several well-known films such as Kaliyattam, Pranayavarnangal, Pattabhishekam, Thachiledathu Chundan, Narasimham, and Meesha Madhavan.

Beyond cinema, Rajendran maintained an active association with theatre and television. He was involved in stage productions both as an actor and director, contributing to the presentation of literary works in dramatic form. Through Kalidas Kala Kendram, he was associated with staging adaptations of noted texts, reflecting his long-standing engagement with theatre as a medium.

He is survived by his wife Sandhya, who comes from a family with a strong background in theatre. She is the daughter of theatre practitioner and socio-cultural activist O. Madhavan and stage actress Vijayakumari. Their son, Divyadarshan, has also worked as an actor. Rajendran was also related to actor and MLA M. Mukesh, who is his brother-in-law.

Arrangements have been made for the public to pay their respects. The body is expected to be brought to his residence from the hospital around 9 a.m. on Thursday, where members of the public can pay homage. A further public viewing is planned at Kalidas Kala Kendram later in the day. By evening, the mortal remains will be transported to Thrithallur for the final rites scheduled the following day.

Rajendran's passing marks the end of a long career across multiple platforms, including cinema, theatre, and television, where he remained active over the years.
