Why Mammootty Is Facing Cyber Attacks After Wayanad Township Visit: What We Know So Far
Mammootty Faces Cyber Attacks After Wayanad Township Visit: Actor Mammootty has come under cyber criticism following his visit to the government-built township for victims of the Wayanad landslide disaster. The visit, which took place yesterday, has triggered debate online after reports emerged that the actor expressed dissatisfaction with a local political leader who accompanied him during the inspection.

According to reports, Mammootty visited the township around noon to see the rehabilitation project constructed for families affected by the landslides in Wayanad. During the visit, he interacted with officials to understand the facilities provided at the township and spoke with residents and students present there. He also visited a few houses in the settlement before leaving the area.
However, a moment during the visit involving CPI(M) district secretary K Rafeeq drew attention on social media. Mammootty reportedly expressed discomfort with the district secretary accompanying him throughout the visit. According to accounts circulating online, the actor asked why the leader was constantly standing beside him and suggested that people might assume he had come for political reasons. He reportedly told him that it would be better if he stepped aside.
The incident quickly became a subject of discussion online, with several left-leaning social media handles criticising the actor. At the same time, opposition voices also weighed in supporting Mammootty. Political reactions further intensified the discussion on social media.
Meanwhile, people close to Mammootty have reportedly stated that the actor had intended the visit to be strictly private. According to these sources, Mammootty travelled from Chennai primarily to see the township project and had not planned a public or political event. They say the visit was arranged quietly and that the media had not been informed in advance.
According to sources, Mammootty had not invited any political leaders to accompany him. The situation reportedly arose when the local leader continued accompanying him during the visit while attempting to manage the crowd that had gathered. It was during this situation that the actor asked him to step aside.
Mammootty Calls Wayanad Township A 'Social Capital'
After the visit, Mammootty spoke positively about the township project while interacting with the media. He described the development as an example of the collective strength of Kerala society. According to the actor, the project reflects how people across the state came together to support families who lost their homes in the disaster.
He noted that food, clothing and shelter are basic needs and said the township represents contributions made by people for those who were displaced. Mammootty described the initiative as a form of "social capital" created by the people of Kerala.
Following the visit, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also acknowledged Mammootty's presence at the township. In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister said the rehabilitation project had already drawn attention beyond the state and noted that the actor's visit brought encouragement to residents who are preparing to rebuild their lives there.
The Chief Minister added that further stages of development in the township remain to be completed and thanked Mammootty for his support and encouragement toward the rehabilitation effort.
