Salim Kumar Death Reason: The Malayalam film industry is grieving after veteran actor Salim Kumar died on Saturday, June 6, at a private hospital in Kochi. The National Award-winning performer was 56. Hospital officials confirmed that Salim Kumar suffered a cardiac arrest while under treatment for multiple health complications. News of the death has drawn condolences from fans, colleagues and political leaders across Kerala. With more than 300 film credits and a career spanning over three decades, Salim Kumar shaped Malayalam cinema both as a comedian and as a serious actor. Crowds gathered outside the Kochi hospital after the news broke.

According to the hospital account quoted by The Hindu, Salim Kumar was rushed to the facility around 2.50 a.m. after developing fever and breathing trouble. Medical staff immediately moved Salim Kumar to intensive care and started ventilator support. Doctors also noted that Salim Kumar lived with several chronic illnesses that had required frequent medical attention in recent years.
Hospital records listed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease needing regular haemodialysis, and coronary artery disease among Salim Kumar's conditions. Salim Kumar had also undergone a liver transplant earlier. In a medical bulletin issued later that night, the hospital stated, "He was initiated on ventilator support, antibiotics, dialysis and other life-saving measures. During the hospital stay, he suffered a cardiac arrest and despite maximum possible resuscitative measures, could not be revived."
