The funeral of Malayalam actor Salim Kumar drew a large crowd in North Paravur on 7 June. The National Award winner was cremated with State honours at the family home in Ernakulam district. During the final rites, the atmosphere turned tense as media cameras focused on the grieving family. Videos shared online showed eldest son Chandu reacting sharply to the photographers and videographers. Chandu was seen asking them to move back and requesting privacy so the family could complete the farewell without constant filming.

The Kerala government issued a statement noting it had learnt with "profound grief" of Salim Kumar’s death. Authorities recognised the actor’s long-standing contribution to Malayalam cinema and announced State honours for the cremation. The government also decided to cover the funeral expenses, including arrangements linked to the official ceremony and related services.

At the North Paravur residence, the District Collector placed a wreath on behalf of the Government of Kerala. The District Police Chief coordinated the police honours, which included a bugle salute during the proceedings. Police personnel participated in the guard of honour, while mourners queued to view the body and offer their respects.
