Roudhram Review

By By: Settu Shankar

Renji Panikkar is back with Mammootty, who is playing as a cop for the 26th time in Roudram. No doubt, it is the racy action flick with ongoing political cum social updates of Kerala through the eyes the protagonist.

Narendiran, (Mammootty) is an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Ernakulam. He is nicknamed as 'Nari' in the force and is married to a girl Prabha (Manju) and has a seven year old son. Nari is a left sympathizer and is always fighting a lost battle to salvage the reputation of the force, who he feels should be for the common man.

His superior officers DIG (Rajan P Dev) and SP (Lalu Alex) are his protectors in the force, though the IG (Ramu) and other officers want to eliminate him. One day, his superiors on the special request of the Chief Minister (Janardanan) are entrusted to investigate the hit and run case of Kamblikandam Jose (Subair), a notorious Ganja

smuggler. Nari's investigation reveals many shocking truths connected with the drug smuggling mafia world, which is run by the top brass. This thread ends with the connection of IG and CM's son in all the anti social activities happened in the state. The climax unfolds how our hero demolishes all the powerful anti social elements with using his intelligent ideas.

The film seems like the mirror, which shows the other side of Kerala Police. Ranji outlines the good and bad within the cop land, with a fair amount of credibility. No doubt, Mammootty is the most suitable actor for doing this kind of police roles with credibility. He lives like a talented, powerful police officer right from the introductory scene to the climax.

Sai Kumar and Vijayaragavan have played their roles effective and well. All the actors in the cast, like Lalu Alex, Rajan P Dev, Urmila Unni, Sona and new face Manju, who plays Mammooty's wife have done justice to their roles. Sanjeev Sankar's camera effectively brought the feel of the film with right tones. The second half of the film seems very lengthy and it should be trimmed.

Overall, Renji's new venture will be definitely a welcome movie and will give more hopes to Mallu industry, which suffers a lot with big disappointments for the past 6 months!

Verdict: Interesting action thriller!
