Aamayum Muyalum Movie Review: A Half-baked Movie

Aamayum Muyalum is the comedy movie directed by Priyadarshan. The movie, which is the remake of Priyadarshan-directed Bollywood flick Malamaal Weekly, stars Jayasurya, Nedumudi Venu and Innocent in the central roles. Piaa Bajpai essays the female lead opposite Jayasurya in the movie. Aamayum Muyalum is produced by Jaison Elamkulam, under the banner Full House Entertainments.

Story

Kashinathan (Nedumudi Venu), Nallavan (Innocent), Kallu (Jayasurya) and Thamara(Piaa Bajpai) are the main theives of Gaulippadi village. One day, a villager wins a lottery of whopping amount. But the winner remains unknown and theives are seen trying hard to find the lottery. During this hunt for the lottery ticket, some unfortunate incidents happen and how they handle the situation forms the crux of the story.

Cast And Performance

Even though Jayasurya is supposed to be the lead actor of the movie, it is Nedumudi Venu and Innocent who have more screen space in the movie. Jayasurya has nothing much to do in the movie, and looks fine in his role. Nedumudi Venu and Innocent fail to create their usual magic in the movie; but manage to make the audience laugh at certain points.

Piaa Bajpai, who essays the female lead has least scope to perform. Sukanya's negative shaded character seems to be a immature copy of Sukumari's character from the movie Thenmavin Kombathu. Harisree Ashokan who plays another supporting role also fails to impress. It is Anoop Menon who steals the show with his cameo appearance. Rest of the cast including Nandu, Mamukoya, Kochu Preman etc are just fine in their roles.

Script And Direction

The major drawback of the movie is the weak script which leaves the plot blank at some points. The script fails to organise the characters and is a bit confusing. The movie offers very less scope to laugh.

When compared to the classic comedy movies in his credit, Priyadarshan completely fails to entertain the audience with the execution of a below-average script. But, Aamayum Muyalum is far better than his last venture Geethanjali.

Technical Aspects

The stunning visualisation is the saving grace of the movie. Cinematographer Diwakar and art director Saloo George deserves a special mention for their excellent work. The visuals and locations of the movie shows uncannible resemblance with Priyadarshan's classic movie Thenmavin Kombathu.

Music and Background Score

Music and background score is composed by popular singer M G Sreekumar. Title song Kalyanipuzhayude Theerathu is fine; while rest of the songs fail to impress. But, the above-average background score perfectly sinks with the mood of the movie.

Verdict

An immature adaptation of Priyadarshan's earlier movies.
