Angels Movie Review: A Cliched Thriller

Angels is a social-thriller directed by debutante Jean Markose. Indrajith, Asha Sarath and Joy Mathew plays the central characters in the movie, which develops through a crime investigation. Angels is penned by director Jean Markose himself along with Tony Tomy and Shabu Kilithattil. The movie is produced by Linu Issac, Hisham Basheer, Saju Azad and Maya Kartha, under the banner Cloud4 Cinema.

Story

Hameem Haider is an efficient yet egoistic police officer. While investigating a controversial case; he is suddenly stripped off the investigation due to biasing in the police department. Haritha Menon, an inquisitive program producer-cum-presenter, takes keen interest in the case and discusses it in the her crime reality reality TV show Views 24x7.

Then enters Fr. Varghese Punyalan, who is called as Bhranthan Kathanar. Fr. Varghese also has a special interest in the case. Both Haritha and Fr. Varghese have hidden intentions and want to know more about Hameem and the case. This unfolds the rest of the story.

Cast And Performance

Indrajith plays Hameem Haider convincingly; but has nothing much to do with the not-so-meaty role. Asha Sarath plays Haritha Menon to near perfection. Joy Mathew, who plays Fr. Varghese Punyalan, is the perfect choice for the role and the actor completely shines as Bhranthan Kathanar.

Rest of the cast, including Baiju who plays SP Ashok Kumar, Prem Prakash who plays the production head of the channel, Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli who essays Hameem's wife Zaina and the other supporting actors are fine in their respective roles.

Script And Direction

The slim and trim script, which manages to engage the audience completely, is the plus point of Angels. But the movie shows some uncannible resemblance with the narrative style of Prithviraj starrer Memories. Jean Markose makes a convincing directorial debut and has done a decent job.

Technical Aspects

The effective cinematography by Sujith Sarang creates a perfect mood for an investigation thriller. Sreejith Sarang's editing is upto standards.

Songs And Background Score

Songs by Jakes Bijoy are just fine; but the composer scores with the notable background score which completely sinks with the crispy narrative style.

Verdict

A cliched suspense thriller. No high expectations!
