Anarkali Movie Review: Come, Watch, Fall In Love!
Anarkali is the romantic thriller which stars Prithviraj in the lead role. The movie marks the directorial debut of scriptwriter Sachi, of Sachi-Sethu duo. Anarkali is produced by Rajeev Nair under the banner Magic Moon Productions.
Anarkali Story
Shantanu (Prithviraj) is a deep-sea diving instructor who works in Kavaratti, the capital of Lakshadweep. His best buddy (Zachariah) is working as the system engineer in a lighthouse.
Both of them were working for Indian Navy; but the left the force after a life-changing incident. But the past continues to haunt Shantanu and what happens in his life forms the rest of the plot.
Cast And Performance
Prithviraj steals the show as Shantanu, a character with two different shades. His performance as the matured, intense lover is just mindblowing; while he is equally good as the young bubbly Navy officer.
Biju Menon is in his usual best as Zachariah. He scores with the impeccable comic timing and shares a great camaraderie with Prithviraj. Priyal Gor, who plays Shantanu's lady love Nadira, is perfect as the Hindi speaking Nawabi girl and shares an excellent chemistry with Prithvi.
Kabir Bedi, who plays Nadira's father, Miya George who essays Dr. Sherin Mathew, and the rest of the star cast including Samskruthy Shenoy, Renji Panicker, Suresh Krishna, Sudev Nair, Syamaprasad, Madhupal etc have played their parts well.
Script And Direction
Popular scenarist Sachi makes a fantastic directorial debut with the movie. The director, who has also scripted the movie, has managed to depict the intense love story between a Malayali man and a North Indian girl in its complete glory.
Sachi has wisely chosen his actors and made use of their talents to the fullest. The only minus point is the lengthy second half, which will give an impression that the writer is struggling to conclude the story. But the heart-melting climax manages to conceal the flaws.
Technical Aspects
Sujith Vasudev's cinematography is just splendid. He has perfectly captured the unexplored beauty of Lakshadweep to near perfection. Ranjan Abraham's editing is perfect in the crispy first half; but a bit ineffective in the lengthy second half.
Songs And Background Score
The songs and background score are composed by popular musician Vidyasagar and the lyrics, penned by producer Rajeev Nair. The music brings out the soul of the movie and makes the intense love story even more beautiful.
Verdict
A love story beyond the barriers of time, language, and distance. A must watch...

Prithviraj
Prithviraj plays Shantanu, a former Navy officer who works as a deep-sea diving instructor in Kavaratti. The actor appears in three different getups in the movie.
Priyal Gor
Priyal Gor, the popular Hindi actress cum model, makes her Malayalam movie debut with Anarkali. She plays Nadira Imam, a Nawabi girl in the movie. Most of her dialogues in the movie are in Hindi and English.
Biju Menon
Biju Menon plays Shantanu's best buddy Zachariah. He was also a Navy officer; but later quits the job and works as the system engineer in a light house in Kavaratti.
Miya George
Miya George plays Dr. Sherin Thomas, who practices in Kavaratti. Sherin accidentally enters Shantanu and Zachariah's life in a particular situation.
Kabir Bedi
Kabir Bedi, the popular Bollywood actor depicts Rear Admiral Jaffer Imam, who is the father of Nadira.
Sachi
The movie is written and directed by Sachi, who rose to fame through his combined works with Sethu. The duo has earlier penned some popular movies including Chocolate, Robin Hood, Seniors etc.
Technical Aspects
Sujith Vasudev, who has earlier handled cinematography for some popular movies including Drishyam, is the director of photography. Senior film editor Ranjan Abraham handles the editing.
Songs And Background Score
The songs and background score are composed by popular musician Vidyasagar. Producer Rajeev Nair himself pens the lyrics.
