Ivide Movie Review: A Movie Of International Standards; Fails As Crime Drama
Ivide is a crime drama, which stars Prithviraj, Nivin Pauly and Bhavana in the lead roles. The movie is directed by Shyamaprasad and penned by Ajayan Venugopalan. Ivide is produced by Dr. S Sajikumar, under the banner Dharmik Films.
Ivide Plot
Varun Blake (Prithviraj) is an Indian who migrates to America at the age of 6. His Indian identity has caused some issues in his childhood, which results in his hatred towards India and Indians.
He is extremely sensitive, short-tempered in nature amd indecisive, which badly affects both his personal and professional lives. But when it comes to his professional life, Varun is highly talented.
As a part of a murder series investigation, Varun meets his ex-wife Roshni Mathew (Bhavana) and Krish Hebbar (Nivin Pauly), an IT company CEO. The investigation slowly starts to affect the life of the trio and this forms the crux of the story.
Cast
Prithviraj steals the show as Varun Blake. The actor just mesmerises with his mindblowing acting skills and excellence in dialogue delivery. He has brilliantly adapted the American accent, which has helped in the perfect portrayal of the character.
Nivin Pauly, who plays Krish Hebbar, is just ok in his role. At certain points, the actors struggle to cope with the character. Sadly, he turns out to be a misfit for the role, which demands an even stronger performer.
Bhavana delivers a decent and matured performance as Roshni. Prakash Bare, Dhanish Karthik, Jia Patel, Deepti Nair, Haridev, Sunil Veettil, Shaun Xavier, Kirstein Gilbert, Robin Cole etc, who appear in the supporting roles, are good in their roles.
Script And Direction
The movie lacks the strength which is needed for an investigation drama. Ajayan Venugopalan fails in bringing up an engaging script out of the not-so-strong plot. The second half and climax will disappoint the normal audience.
When it is approached as a typical Shyamaprasad movie, Ivide is an above average movie experience. But as a crime drama, the movie fails to meet the standards. Despite the expectations, it is not a different film from Shyamaprasad, but is just another movie with the signature of the director.
Technical Aspects
The movie stands out with its Hollywood-like making style and visualisation. American cinematographer Eric Dickinson has succeeded in bringing out the beauty of Atlanta.
The movie is completely rich with the beautiful visuals. Manoj's editing is not upto the mark, as the movie fallsinto low pace from the beginning.
Songs And Background Score
National Award winner Gopi Sundar composes the songs for the movie. The songs Etho theerangal and Aazhangalil dhinaravukal perfectly sinks in with the plot of the film. The background score is brilliant at most of the parts but lacks perfection at certain points.
Verdict
A Malayalam movie of International standards. But fails to satisfy the Shyamaprasad fans and crime drama lovers.
