Jo And The Boy Movie Review: A Dream Journey

By Akhila Menon

Rating:
3.0/5

Jo And The Boy is the comical entertainer which stars Manju Warrier and Sanoop Santhosh in the title roles. The movie is written and directed by Philips And The Monkey Pen fame Rojin Thomas. Jo And The Boy is produced by Alice George, under the banner Goodwill Entertainments.

Jo And The Boy Story

Joyal Mary John aka Jo (Manju Warrier) works as the computer tutor in a school. Jo is not matured enough for her age and has an extremely childish nature. She dreams of making a cartoon character, who can interact with the audience.

Jo meets a young boy named Chriz (Sanoop) during her journey. Unlike Jo, Chriz is highly matured for his age. He starts influencing Jo and slowly, their lives start changing. What happens in their life forms the rest of the plot.

Cast And Performance

Manju Warrier is perfect as Jo aka Joyal Mary John, the highly creative yet restless girl. Manju's portrayal of the character will remind her role Abhirami from Summer In Bethlehem, at certain points.

Sanoop Santhosh, who portrays Chriz, overshadows the rest of the actors, with his exuberant screen presence. Sanoop deserves a special applause for his matured acting skills.

The rest of the star cast includes Lalu Alex, Sudheer Karamana, Rekha Menon, Pearle Maaney, Kala Ranjini, Kiran, Sunil Sukhadha etc have perfectly played their respective parts.

Script And Direction

Writer-director Rojin Thomas has successfully portrayed a completely fresh theme, which is strongly supported by the well-written screenplay. The crispy, touching dialogues deserve a special mention. The only minus is the half-baked comical situations, which looks artificial at certain points.

Technical Aspects

Neil D' Cunha's cinematography makes a beautiful backdrop for the movie, which is a blend of realism and fantasy. Rahman Mohammed's editing is not up to the marks, as the movie falls into slow pace at the first half.

Music

The songs and background score are composed by Rahul Subramaniam, who is also the creative director of the movie. Both the songs and background score perfectly blends with the mood of the movie.

Verdict

A complete entertainer for the season, to be watched with kids and family.
