Mariyam Mukku is the debut directorial venture of James Albert. The movie stars Fahadh Faasil in the lead role. Vikramadithyan fame Sana Althaf plays the female lead opposite Fahadh in the movie. Manoj K Jayan, Joy Mathew, Aju Varghese etc plays the other pivotal roles. Mariyam Mukku is produced by AK Sabeer under the banner Sam Big Movies.
Mariyam Mukku is a seashore village and Mariyaan Ashan (Manoj K Jayan) is the leader of the villagers. Felix (Fahadh Faasil), Mariyan Aashan's foster son, falls in love with his childhood friend Salomi (Sana Althaf), daughter of Sayip (Joy Mathew). After a series of incidents, Felix comes into a situation which demands him to choose between Aashan or Salomi. This forms the crux of the story.
Cast and Performance
Fahadh Faasil steals the show as Felix, a rough yet loving villager. The actors completely sinks into the character with his impeccable mannerisms and coastal dialect. Sana Althaf, who makes her debut in lead roles perfectly fits into her minimal roel. Sana highly resembles the popular actress Asin.
Manoj K Jayan excels as Mariyaan Ashan. Joy Mathew and Irshad delivers decent performances. Aju Varghese who has become an inevitable factor of the contemporary cinema, badly needs an image breaking role. The actor fails to impress with his repetitive performance.
Script and Direction
James Albert, who makes his directorial debut, succeeds in covering the flaws of a weak script. The screenplay fails to portray a strong romance track between the lead pair; as well to add more elements to make the plot engaging.
Gireesh Gangadharan's impressive cinematography helps to create a visual impact from the beginning to end. Ranjan Abraham's editing is upto marks.
Music and Background Score
Vidyasagar's songs fail to impress; while the decent background score completely sinks with the mood of the movie.
