Mili Movie Review: Watch It For Amala Paul

By Akhila Menon

Rating:
2.5/5

Mili is the latest directorial venture of Rajesh Pillai, who makes a comeback after a gap of 3 years. The movie stars Amala Paul in the title role. Nivin Pauly essays the male lead. Saikumar, Sanusha, Shamna Kasim, Ambika, Praveena etc plays the other pivotal roles in the movie. Mili is produced by Ordinary Pictures and Cross Pictures.

Story

Mili (Amala Paul) is an under-confident introvert girl, who works as a kinder garden teacher. Her odd behaviour creates problems for the people around her and they start disliking her. Then she meets Naveen (Nivin Pauly), who motivates Mili to change her perspective towards life. Thus forms the crux of the story.

Cast and Performance

Amala Paul delivers her best performance till date as Mili. The actress carriers the entire film in her shoulders and plays the under-confident introvert girl, to near perfection. Nivin Pauly who played the prominent male character Naveen, has nothing much to do in the minimal role, but plays his part in the best possible way. The actor deserves a special applause for choosing to be a part of a woman-centric film.

Another actor who made the audience awestruck with his performance is Saikumar. The actor essayed the role of Mili's father in the movie and completely shines in his role. The rest of the cast, including Sanusha, Shamna Kasim, Praveena, Ambika, Sija Rose etc completely fits into their respective characters.

Script and Direction

The script penned by Mahesh Narayanan deals with a motivational theme; but could only achieve partial success in materializing it perfectly. The movie disappoints the audience at certain points, with the lack of appeal. Director Rajesh Pillai succeeds in bringing out the best from the actors; thus making the movie watchable.

Technical Aspects

Aneeshlal's cinematography plays an integral part in making a perfect ambiance for the movie, which deals with a light subject. A Abhilash's editing is not up to standards; as the movie falls into low pace at certain points.

Music and Background Score

Songs composed by Gopi Sundar; (especially the songs Manjupeyyumee and Kanmani) are extremely enjoyable. The song Meghamay, composed by Shaan Rahman is also brilliant. Background score, composed by Gopi Sundar is extremely soothing and perfectly blends with the mood of the movie.

Verdict

Mili fails to make an impact as a motivational movie; but the performances of the actors makes the movie a watchable flick.
