Alamara Movie Review

Synopsis

The story of Alamara revolves around Arun, a young guy employed in Bangalore and Swati, a Kochi-based girl who get hitched. After their marriage, an 'alamara' is gifted to them by the bride's family and the rest of the film deals with certain the funny issues that arise surrounding the 'alamara'.

Read on to know how the cast and crew members of Alamara have fared for the movie..

Director - Midhun Manuel Thomas

Director - Midhun Manuel Thomas

Midhun Manuel Thomas has weaved a watchable film out of a wafer thin story plot. The best part of his making pattern is the way in which he handles his artistes. For instance, the way he has used Indrans in this film is quite impressive.

But, at times, one would get a feel that the film is slipping out of the director's hands, especially in certain sequences in the second half. However, it is a decent job from the director and has stayed loyal to the genre.

Script - John Manthrickal

Script - John Manthrickal

John Manthrickal's screenplay is a decent one. He has added certain realistic elements to the script like the issues that arise between a husband and wife. While the realistic elements win, the non-realistic elements fall flat. Altogether, it is a mixed bag from the writer.

Sunny Wayne As Arun

Sunny Wayne As Arun

Sunnay Wayne appears as Arun, a bank employee based in Bangalore. Well, he has done complete justice to the character and we could see the actor in him maturing, with each passing movie. There are certain areas for improvement in the actor in him, such as the dubbing in loud sequences.

Aditi Ravi As Swati

Aditi Ravi As Swati

Aditi Ravi portrays the role of Swati, the leading lady of the film. The actress who makes her debut as the leading lady has given a decent performance and looked gorgeous in most of the sequences of the movie.

Manikandan Achari As Supran

Manikandan Achari As Supran

Well, here is a man who is definitely the future of Malayalam cinema. We get to see a different Manikandan Achari in Alamara. He appears as the uncle of Arun, and takes care of the humour department in his own style.

Renji Panicker

Renji Panicker

With Alamara, Renji Panicker has successfully broken the stereotype associated with the roles that have come his way in the recent times. We got to see a different father character from the actor in Alamara. The actor hits the right chord with the comic timing, which is indeed a good sign.

Aju Varghese As Suvin

Aju Varghese As Suvin

The role of Suvin is nothing new to Aju Varghese. It is one such role, which he has done in the past. His role could have been developed in a better fashion. Nevertheless, the actor puts up a convincing performance, providing some decent laughs.

Saiju Kurup

Saiju Kurup

A special mention to this man, who has put up an impressive show as Arun's close friend. In fact, he amps up the humour quotient of the movie and his delivery of comical dialogues is nothing less than impressive.

Rest Of The Cast

Rest Of The Cast

Apart from the above mentioned actors, Alamara also features Seema G Nair, Sudhi Kopa, Sadique, Indrans etc., in vital roles. Salim Kumar is also a part of the film as he lends voice to the 'alamara'.

Other Technicalities

Satheesh Kurup is the man who has handled the camera department of the movie. He has covered the two different landscapes of Bangalore and Kochi, effectively. Editing of the film is by Lijo Paul and he could have definitely done a better job to pace the movie evenly.

Music is by Sooraj S Kurup and upto an extent, he has done a decent job. BGM isn't too loud and gels well with the movie.

Overall View

As mentioned above, Alamara has a wafer thin storyline and the addition of this special 'alamara' to the storyline is what that adds the required freshness to the movie. The light-hearted comedies in the first half takes forward the movie smoothly.

The film takes us back to the clean entertainers of 1990's, which revolved around family issues and egos that exist between bride's and groom's family members. All these have been portrayed pretty well in Alamara.

At the same time, the predictablity of the proceedings might take a toll on the viewers. Certain issues that arise in the family as shown in the film might seem to be over the top for certain section of viewers.

Nevertheless, the good performances of the stellar cast, the feel-good moments and a good messag at the end of the movie, keep the film lively.

Verdict

Alamara doesn't unlock any big surprises. But, it definitely has some sweet moments in store that make it a watchable entertainer.
