Basheerinte
Premalekhanam,
directed
by
young
film-maker
Aneesh
Anwar
has
hit
the
theatres
today
(July
21,
2017).
The
film,
featuring
Farhaan
Faasil
and
Sana
Althaf
in
the
lead
roles,
has
been
bankrolled
by
the
banner
Fort
Entertainment.
The
expectations
were
good
enough
on
the
movie,
as
the
posters
and
superhit
songs
of
the
film,
did
hit
the
right
chords
with
the
audiences.
But
does
the
movie
offer
anything
special
to
the
audiences?

Plot
The
story
of
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
is
set
in
a
village
of
the
1980s,
where
televisions
aren't
that
common.
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
takes
you
through
the
events
that
happen
when
a
Television
finally
arrives
to
the
village.
Enter
Basheer,
who
is
the
only
one
who
knows
to
assemble
and
operate
television.
Basheer
who
meets
Suhra,
whose
house
the
television
is
being
installed,
falls
in
love
with
her.
Their
lovestory
and
subsequent
events
that
unfold
form
the
crux
of
the
story.
See
how
the
cast
&
crew
members
of
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
have
fared
for
the
movie..
Farhaan
Faasil
As
Basheer
The
title
character
Basheer
has
been
portrayed
by
Farhaan
Faasil.
The
young
actor,
in
his
second
film
has
put
up
an
'okay'
performance.
In
fact,
he
didn't
look
that
convincing
in
most
of
the
romantic
sequences.
He
has
tried
to
bring
in
some
differences
but
couldn't
pull
them
off
in
the
best
possible
manner.
Sana
Althaf
As
Suhra
Sana
Althaf,
plays
Suhra,
the
lady-love
of
Basheer.
She
got
to
play
the
role
of
a
girl
in
the
1980s
and
has
given
a
decent
performance.
She
looked
perfect
for
the
role
but
still,
there
is
room
for
improvement,
especially
in
dialogue
delivery.
Madhu
(Abu
Ikka)
&
Sheela
(Ummumma)
Madhu
&
Sheela
play
a
couple
in
this
movie.
Disappointingly,
there
are
no
combination
sequences
for
them
in
the
film.
We
get
to
see
them
together
only
in
the
song
'Pranyamaanithu...'
Sheela
gets
to
play
the
tailor-made
role
of
a
grandmother,
who
is
the
biggest
support
to
her
granddaughter.
She
pulls
off
the
role
with
ease.
At
the
same
time,
certain
dialogues
looked
a
bit
dramatic
and
overboard.
On
the
other
hand,
Madhu
is
a
towering
presence
in
the
film.
He
does
his
best
and
his
role
could
have
been
developed
in
a
better
manner.
Manikandan
Achari
As
Usman
Manikandan
Achari,
gets
to
play
a
real
different
role
in
this
movie.
In
fact,
he
is
undoubtedly
the
best
performer
in
the
film.
The
actor
has
done
a
neat
job
with
the
change
in
dialect
and
there
is
an
emotional
sequence
in
the
movie,
which
shows
how
good
an
actor
he
is.
Rest
Of
The
Cast
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
also
features
Ranjini
Jose,
Prem
Navas,
Sunil
Sugatha,
Nobi,
Sreejith
Ravi,
Sivaji
Guruvayoor
etc.,
in
important
roles.
Among
the
supporting
cast,
Hareesh
Perumanna
scores
heavily
with
his
comic
timing.
Joy
Mathew
also
gets
to
play
a
full-length
role,
which
he
has
done
to
perfection.
Script
–
Shinod,
Shamseer
and
Bibin
The
script
of
the
film
has
been
penned
by
three
newcomers
Shinod,
Shamseer
and
Bibin.
They
have
put
up
an
interesting
plot
on
the
papers,
but
failed
to
make
use
of
it
properly.
The
development
of
the
characters
is
on
the
weaker
side,
with
the
lead
characters
also
failing
to
establish
themselves
because
of
shoddy
writing.
Even
the
romantic
track
has
been
developed
in
a
poor
fashion,
which
has
backfired.
Direction
–
Aneesh
Anwar
Aneesh
Anwar,
who
gave
the
audiences
two
brilliant
works
in
the
form
of
Zachariyayude
Garbhinikal
and
Kumbasaram,
has
opted
to
take
a
different
route
in
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam.
This
time,
he
has
opted
to
take
the
full-on
entertainment
route.
Disappointingly,
Aneesh
Anwar
fails
to
impress
this
time.
The
film-maker
in
him
is
left
confused
most
of
the
times.
He
has
fizzled
out
in
the
romantic
sequences,
failing
to
establish
the
chemistry
between
the
lead
pair.
He
has
done
a
good
job
by
creating
the
mood
of
the
1980s
but
that
solely
wasn't
enough
to
save
the
movie.
Other
Technical
Aspects
Sanjay
Harris
has
handled
the
camera
department
and
he
has
done
a
good
job
in
his
debut
venture.
The
editing
of
the
film
looked
shabby
as
many
of
the
sequences
lacked
a
smooth
flow.
Music
by
Vishnu
Mohan
Sithara
is
excellent,
and
he
is
definitely
a
budding
talent.
Overall
View
Well,
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
has
been
tagged
as
a
romantic
comedy.
Having
said
that,
the
love
track
in
such
a
genre
holds
due
importance.
But
here
the
audiences
don't
get
attached
to
its
lead
characters.
The
romantic
track
between
Suhra
and
Basheer
lacks
conviction
or
the
emotional
connect
that
the
audiences
are
longing
for.
In
fact,
another
surprise
romantic
track
in
the
film
is
even
more
fruitful
than
the
love
track
of
the
lead
characters.
The
first
half
of
the
film
moves
forward
with
scattered
comedies
here
and
there.
With
the
arrival
of
the
television,
the
film
offers
an
interesting
turn.
The
audiences
get
to
go
for
a
trip
down
the
memory
lane
but
too
many
such
instances,
test
the
patience
of
the
audiences.
Similar
is
the
case
of
the
second
half,
where
in
which
the
core
plot
takes
the
backseat,
with
some
unwanted
attempts
to
create
comedy,
spoiling
the
show.
The
film
gets
back
to
the
proper
track
towards
the
end,
but
not
before
creating
the
necessary
damage.
On
a
positive
note,
as
mentioned
above,
there
are
some
glimpses
of
nostalgic
elements,
which
might
bring
a
smile
on
your
faces.
Verdict
Basheerinte
Premalekhanam
is
a
trip
down
the
memory
lane,
which
fails
to
create
the
necessary
impact.
The
film's
plot
and
premises
get
full
marks
but
the
final
product,
isn't
convincing.
