The story of Aanakallan revolves around a person named Pavithran, who is in a jail for a theft case. Aanakallan Review: This Biju Menon Starrer Does Entertain At Parts!

Well, the story of Aanakallan isn't anything new and it could rather be considered as a mix of some of the movies from the past. Aanakallan is basically a comedy movie and at the same time, the script penned by Udaykrishna of the film has given due consideration to investigation and suspense elements as well. The film follows a template and it has to be said that this particular template has worked up to some extent in offering a good dosage of entertainment.

Suresh Divakar, the film-maker has opted for a straightforward and simple narration and it has worked out pretty well in the first half of the movie. Some of the combination sequences do give the necessary laughter. Such sequences and the inquisitive elements do keep the interest of the audiences in tact. However, the cliché elements lingering around in the script backfires at many times. Even some of the jokes and counters have turned out to be predictable ones, which affect the overall entertainment value. Things to go out of the hand for the director with too many subplots and at that time, the film fails to communicate with the audiences.

Biju Menon as Pavithran has done complete justice to his role. In fact, he shoulders the movie in many portions and he is at the usual best. Siddique was good in the role of Aana Esthappan, who has equal scope as that of the lead characters. Suraj Venjaramoodu too has done his part pretty well. The leading ladies Anusree and Shamna Kasim didn't have much to do. The film also features actors like Dharmajan Bolghatty, Sudheer Karamana, Suresh Krishna, Hareesh Kanaran etc., in important roles.

The song Ninne Onn Kaananaayi gels well with the movie and it is indeed a treat to watch. The BGM by Bijipal was pretty good. Cinematography and editing were OK.

Aanakallan does offer some good humorous moments but still the cliched elements have pulled the film down at parts. However, the film indeed qualifies for a one-time watch.
