Diwanji Moola Grand Prix Movie Review: Another Decent Thrissur-based Flick!

Kunchacko Boban As Sajan Joseph

Kunchacko Boban appears as Sajan Joseph, an IAS officer. Of late, there has been a positive change in the way the actor has been selecting his roles and it is quite evident in this movie, as well. The role has its own due importance in the film and Kunchacko Boban has come up with a neat and matured performance, which was required for a character like this.

Nyla Usha As Effymol

Nyla Usha gets to play a well-written role and in fact, one of the best in her acting career, so far. As Effymol, who hails from Diwanji Moola, she has come up with a very effective performance.

Vinayakan As Vareedh

Well, this man is definitely the show-stealer of the film. We get to see more of this character only towards the latter half, but he makes it a point to entertain one and all with his interesting portrayal of Vareedh.

Siddique As Jithendra

Siddique gets to play the role of Jithendra, a quadriplegic, who was once a bike racer. His character has a lot of depth and Siddique is an apt choice for this role. In fact, he does evoke laughter with some his neat one-liners.

Rest Of The Cast

Diwanji Moola Grand Prix has a strong supporting cast. Debutante Rahul has done a neat job. Ketaki Narayanan also comes up with a fine performance. Nedumudi Venu once again impresses whereas Rajeev Pillai's makeover is worth mentioning. And then, the film also brings back some of the prominent characters of the Malayalam movies based in Thrissur. Some of them have worked well but certain others looked forced upon without any relevance.

Director – Anil Radhakrishna Menon

Anil Radhakrishna Menon takes the audiences once again to the land of Thrissur, after the successful Sapthamasree Thaskaraha. This time, he takes the audiences to a new terrain of the city and the lives of people living out there.

The film-maker in him takes his own time in establishing the core storyline of the movie and he introduces the chraacters one by one. But, at places, he slips off from the main track, which slightly affects the viewing experience.

Due credits to him for the picturisation of the racing sequences, which are sure to be a delight for the audiences. He has infused that thrilling elements in the right proportions, which does give the film an all new angle.

Script – Anil Radhakrishna Menon & Prasanth Nair

Diwanji Moola Grand Prix has been jointly scripted by Anil Radhakrishna Menon and Prasanth Nair. The story of Diwanji Moola grand Prix isn't anything new but the characterisations, definitely are. The way in which many of the characters in the film have been etched is pretty impressive. The script also has elements of a social satire infused in it, which works pretty well. But at the same time, some of the proceedings are rather predictable.

Other Departments

Cinematographer Alex J Pullickel has yet again come up with an impressive work after Action Hero Biju. Special mention to the way in which he has handled the racing sequences. Editing by manoj Kannoth is fine. Gopi Sunder has done a decent job with the music department.
