What's
Nay:
A

Plot
Michael
Anjoottikkaran
(Mammootty)
is
the
patriarch
of
his
family
that
consists
of
his
siblings
and
their
children.
Michael's
widowed
sister-in-law
Fathima
(Naida
Moidu),
her
sons
Ajaz
(Soubin
Shahir)
and
Ami
(Sreenath
Bhasi),
and
his
sister
Susan
(Lena)
love
and
respect
him
dearly.
But
Michael's
other
brothers
and
nephews
hate
him
for
his
control
over
their
lives.
Things
take
a
different
turn
when
they
join
hands
with
Michael's
old
foes
Iravipilla
(Nedumudi
Venu),
his
wife
(KPAC
Lalitha),
and
their
grandson
Rajan
(Sudev
Nair),
to
get
rid
of
him.
Amal
Neerad
has
helmed
Bheeshma
Parvam
and
has
also
co-written
the
film
along
with
Devadath
Shaji.
The
actor-writer
duo
has
successfully
created
a
universe
that
is
heavily
inspired
by
the
worlds
of
Mahabharatha
and
The
Godfather
and
rooted
in
Kochi
of
the
mid-1980s.
The
biggest
strength
of
this
Mammootty-starrer
is
its
familiar
yet
captivating
premise
that
unfolds
slowly
yet
steadily.
As
expected,
the
dialogues
are
short,
crisp,
and
catchy.
Bheeshma
Parvam
is
not
just
all
about
celebrating
its
central
character
Michael,
but
the
movie
narrates
the
deeply
rooted
familial
discord
that
has
passed
to
generations.
We
are
introduced
to
a
household
where
each
character
possesses
a
distinctive
personality
even
if
the
screentime
is
very
limited.
At
the
same
time,
Bheeshma
Parvam
doesn't
restrict
itself
to
a
dark
family-action
drama.
The
Mammootty-starrer
also
caters
to
the
audience
who
look
forward
to
watching
some
whistle-worthy
moments
and
a
great
adrenaline
rush.
However,
Bheeshma
Parvam
is
not
a
flawless
film.
The
slow
pace
in
the
first
half
does
look
intentional,
but
it
might
not
appeal
to
some
of
the
audience.
The
second
half
and
climax,
on
the
other
hand,
look
and
feel
rushed.
However,
this
Mammootty-starrer
is
definitely
a
satisfying
watch
for
the
audiences
who
are
ready
to
enter
this
crazy
world
without
judgements.
Mammootty
looks
simply
majestic
as
Michael,
the
patriarch
who
literally
lives
for
his
family
in
Bheeshma
Parvam.
As
always,
the
megastar's
screen
presence
is
impeccable
and
dialogue
delivery
is
top-notch.
The
veteran
actor
once
again
amazes
us
with
his
expertise
in
handling
different
Malayalam
dialects.
Soubin
Shahir
steals
the
show
in
the
second
half
with
his
balanced
performance
and
shines
in
the
action
sequences.
Sreenath
Bhasi
is
extremely
likable
as
Ami
while
Shine
Tom
Chacko
(even
though
his
character
looks
like
an
extension
of
Bhasi
Pillai
from
Kurup)
and
Sudev
Nair
score
with
their
negative
roles.
Nedumudi
Venu
and
KPAC
Lalitha,
the
late
veteran
actors
appear
together
for
one
last
time
in
the
roles
that
leave
us
surprised,
in
Bheeshma
Parvam.
The
rest
of
the
star
cast,
including
Naida
Moidu,
Anasuya
Bharadwaj,
Lena,
Ramesh
Kottayam,
Abu
Salim,
Nisthar
Sait,
Harish
Uthaman,
Srindaa,
Maala
Parvathi,
Anagha,
Veena
Nandakumar,
Shebin
Benson,
Pauly
Valsan,
Dhanya
Ananya,
and
others
are
perfect
in
their
respective
roles.
Technical
Aspects
Anend
C
Chandran
has
done
a
brilliant
job
with
the
visualisation
of
the
film,
which
sets
the
perfect
backdrop
for
the
action
drama
set
in
the
1980s.
Vivek
Harshan's
editing
has
made
Bheeshma
Parvam
a
sleek,
engaging
watch
for
most
of
its
parts.
The
production
design
by
Sunil
Babu
and
Joseph
Nellickal
and
costume
design
by
Sameera
Saneesh,
accurately
place
the
time
period
that
the
film
is
set
in.
Supreme
Sundar,
the
stunt
director
deserves
a
special
mention
for
the
stylish,
well-choreographed
action
sequences.
Tapas
Nayak's
sound
design
is
flawless.
Music
Sushin
Shyam
once
again
proves
his
expertise
in
composing
the
adrenaline-pumping
background
score,
which
is
unarguably
the
backbone
of
Bheeshma
Parvam.
Among
the
songs,
it
is
the
'Parudeesa' song
that
stays
with
us.
Verdict
Bheeshma
Parvam
is
an
enthralling
cinematic
experience
that
keeps
the
audience
engaged
with
its
brilliant
performances
and
fantastic
making.
Mammootty
and
Amal
Neerad
have
definitely
struck
the
right
chord
with
this
action
drama.
