Rank Last week Film Plusses Minuses
1 Don - The Chase Begins Again A good run at the box office means that 'Don' continues to stay at the top of the music charts too. The song that has turned out to be the biggest hit of all is 'Main Hoon Don'. SEL and SRK have yet another big hit together after KHNH and KANK. ''Khaike Paan' looks out of place in the film; especially so when audience was just interested in some action and thrills!
2 Dhoom 2 It is to the credit of buzzword 'Dhoom' that the album stays at #2 in the charts in spite of zero publicity of actual songs in the film. With just 2 more weeks to go for the film's release, Pritam may just have another album reaching the top of the charts if the film clicks. Pritam has delivered much better music for some of the other lesser hyped films, hence it was expected that he would be coming up with something exceptional for the sequel of a film that had put him the big league. When KANK and Don had reached #1 spot at their very arrival on the stands, they hadn't left this spot even once before the film's release. Comparatively it took just a week's time for 'Dhoom 2' to move a step down.
3 Woh Lamhe Two albums belonging to completely diverse genres make Pritam a top contender for the numero uno composer along with Himesh Reshammiya for year 2006. 'Woh Lamhe' continues to be one of the top selling albums of the season and would boast of consistent sales over the weeks in spite of the film being out of circulation in the theatres. The album could have been a much bigger success if the film would have enjoyed a longer run
5 Umrao Jaan The album moves up, though by a solitary position in the week of its release. Melodious tunes with very good lyrics, this is one the best collaborations of Anu Malik and Javed Akhtar. The songs are said to be one of the major downfalls of this 3 hour long film as they only make the film appear longer. A pity, since they are good tunes to listen and enjoy.
5 Jaan-e-mann Just like the film, the music of 'Jaan-e-Mann' too shows a fight to stay in the charts, though in the middle position. Second Anu Malik album in Top 5 in his comeback season. There was little time between the kick start of album's promotion, release of the album and then the film. Below average run of the film at the box office hasn't helped it's case either.
4 Bas Ek Pal The song 'Tere Bin' peaked with the film's release and continues to excite the audience even weeks later. Meanwhile other songs have worked for the album too hence making it one of the best music to have arrived this year. None
8 Apna Sapna Money Money Who would have thought that a film starring relatively less star-value would register good musical sales? But in the times when audience has a changing musical taste almost every quarter, Amit Kumar's tapori track 'Guitar' has caught on in a big way and helped Riteish realise his dream of dancing to a Govinda style number. Not for those who are looking for a soulful/melodious/romantic score here
7 KANK Maintaining good sales on the lower side of the charts, KANK continues to hold fort, in spite of the mixed reactions it got from the critics on its release. Audience may now be looking for a change from Karan Johar and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy in their next outing
9 Lage Raho Munnabhai One more week goes by as Shantanu Moitra's situational songs continue to be heard all over. 'Guru' and 'Bhagam Bhag' arrive soon which would mean an end of good run for this album. None
New Babul Aadesh Srivastava's quality soundtrack of 'Babul' makes a quiet entry into the charts at #10. Just like 'Baghban', it has potential to grow as the movie release comes closer. The album grows on you rather than being a 'masala-mix' which are instant hits on Day 1.
