Bhupen Hazarika serious, on dialysis

Bhupen Hazarika, noted singer, musician and lyricist is admitted in the intensive care unit in Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital, Andheri, Mumbai. Bhupen Hazarika's condition is said to be critical.

Bhupen Hazarika, known for his deep baritone voice is on ventilator support and is undergoing dialysis. Hazarika was admitted to the hospital way back in June after being detected with chest infection and complaining of breathlessness.

Speaking to a leading newspaper, Dr Ram Narain, chief operating officer said, “Over the last couple of days, his kidneys were not functioning properly and he was not passing adequate urine, because of which he had to be put on dialysis."

Bhupen Hazarika, who celebrated his 85th birthday in the hospital on September 8th has sung in Bengali, Hindi and Assamese, which is his mother tongue.

Bhupen Hazarika has previously been awarded the Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
