London (ANI): Beleaguered rock star Pete Doherty has been banned from a playing at a prison due to fears that he may have bad influence on the inmates. The 28-year-old 'Babyshambles" frontman was due to play in a charity line-up at Pentonville jail, North London on Bank Holiday Monday. However, Prison Service officials disallowed him to perform because they thought that he might send out the wrong message.

Sources have revealed that the gig, set up by charity Wasted Youth to highlight young male suicides, will now be played by The Enemy and Dirty Pretty Things, which is fronted by Doherty"s old Libertines bandmate Carl Barat. “The gig is to focus on the message but it would have turned into a Doherty circus. At one point everyone thought Pete was going to be there anyway — as part of the crowd of inmates!" British tabloid The Sun quoted a source as saying. Doherty dodged jail on Tuesday for breaching his bail after a police blunder.
