Paul McCartney fights for kangaroos

Sir Paul McCartney
Washington (ANI): Legendary singer Sir Paul McCartney's love for animals has extended Down Under as he's now voiced his disgust against Australia's plans to cull a large number of kangaroos. The 65-year-old came out in support to a campaign by Vegetarians International Voice for Animals (VIVA!), who are working towards stopping the proposed killing of 500 of the animals near the country's capital, Canberra.

The marsupials have been the target after the Australian government issued reports stating their large numbers impacted heavily on other species in the area and thus they should be culled. "There is an urgent need for action to protect kangaroos from a barbaric industry which slaughters them for meat and leather," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

The former Beatle has been an avid campaigner for animal rights and recently he featured in a new People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) poster campaign in which he described the moment he decided to become a vegetarian. Since a long time, VIVA! have fought a battle against the killing of kangaroos for meat exportation.
