London
(ANI):
Sir
Elton
John
cannot
adopt
the
14-month-old
Ukranian
boy
he
wishes
to
adopt,
the
Family,
Youth
and
Sports
Minister
of
Ukraine
has
said.
Yuriy
Pavlenko
has
mentioned
that
the
legendary
singer
cannot
take
home
Lev
with
his
partner
David
Furnish,
as
same-sex
unions
do
not
have
legal
status
in
the
country.
“The
law
is
the
same
for
everybody:
for
a
president,
for
a
minister,
for
Elton
John," Times
Online
quoted
him
as
saying.
Apart
from
banning
gay
couples
from
adopting,
the
law
also
restricts
people
who
are
more
than
45
years
older
than
the
child
from
adopting
the
kid.
However,
the
minister
wasn"t
totally
dismissive
of
the
'Candle
in
the
Wind" singer"s
noble
plan.
He
mentioned
that
John"s
attempt
to
adopt
Lev
would
increase
the
domestic
adoption
of
more
children
with
health
problems,
which
is
still
rare
in
the
country.
Earlier,
John
had
revealed
that
he
was
clueless
about
the
adoption
procedure
in
Ukraine.
He
had
said:
“I
don"t
know
how
we
[would
apply
for
adoption],
but
he
has
stolen
my
heart.
And
he
has
stolen
David"s
heart
and
it
would
be
wonderful
if
we
can
have
a
home."
