Taylor Swift fired for possum feeding act in Australia

Melbourne (ANI): American singer Taylor Swift has come under fire from Aussie wildlife warriors for feeding some possums during her visit Down Under. Swift, 20, wowed audiences at her debut Rod Laver Arena performance in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

But instead of partying at some of the city's popular celebrity hangouts, she headed for an inner city park to celebrate the success of her show. "Tonight the band and I played a show, then hopped in the van and headed to the park for some midnight wild possum feeding," the Daily Telegraph quoted her, as writing on Twitter.

But her act of feeding the possums has not gone down well with many. A Department of Sustainability and Environment spokesman said: "We know people who feed wild animals often have the best intentions and that it is attractive to tourists who want to interact with Australian wildlife. However, DSE advises people not to feed wild animals ... it can disrupt their natural behaviour and it can cause some animals to lose their natural fear of people, making them vulnerable to attack."

Possums are small marsupials native to Australia and are usually a favourite with tourists.
