its
first
week
of
release,
debuting
at
number
1
in
the
Billboard
top
200.
It
is
only
the
17th
album
in
the
world
to
hit
the
million
benchmark,
after
album
sales
started
being
tracked
by
SoundScan,
since
1991.
This
is
Lady
Gaga's
first
album
which
has
topped
the
Billboard
charts
on
its
debut.
The
record
for
highest
sales
in
the
opening
week
is
held
by
NSYNC's
“No
Strings
Attached," which
also
topped
the
Billboard
200
charts,
selling
2,416,000
copies.
Gaga's
“Born
this
Way"
is
the
first
album
to
hit
the
million
mark
since
50
Cent's,
“The
Massacre"
in
2005.
Also
Gaga
is
only
the
5th
female
artist
to
hit
the
million
mark
after
Whitney
Houston
in
1992,
Britney
Spears
in
2000,
Norah
Jones
in
2004
and
Taylor
Swift
in
2010.
