Pete Doherty sentenced to six months imprisonment

By Raymond Ronamai

Singer Pete Doherty, who was previously jailed twice for drug offences, has again been sentenced to six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to cocaine possession at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The Libertines singer, along with other three people, was arrested last March after 27-year-old filmmaker Whitehead, who was making a documentary on him, died of a suspected overdose in January 2009 at an East London flat. Pete had earlier admitted that he visited the flat the day before and the day after she died but was at his home on the night of her death.

Pete Doherty said that he was devastated by the loss of his close friend. “I need to think. I need to explain. I need you to know that these families are torturing themselves in the quest for sinister plots and answers that are not there. Robyn's father texted me that I am a 'coward and a runt' and that I am to blame. She talked constantly of her father Peter Whitehead. She worshipped him . She would be broken hearted if she knew that I was not even invited to the funeral. She was my best friend you deranged old silly. There is no cover up," he wrote on his blog.
