July 21 was a contrasting day for singer Rihanna. While she and Jay Z put up a good show in New Jersy, a judge from New York granted renowned photographer David Lachapelle the permission to continue cast against her over her S&M music video.
David Lachapelle had moved the court earlier this year alleging that “S&M" music video of Rihanna is derived from her images. On July 21, District Judge Shira Scheindlin ruled that the photographer's works and the singer's music video are similar, thus paving the way for trial in the court. However, the judge dismissed Scheindlin's claims like trade-dress infringement, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.
The parties are expected to have a conference on August 10 to discuss the matter.
